Operation Silent Wind COOP10 v1.5

Armitage

This is a typically special force mission. First, you have to infiltrate the island Utes by boat. Ask a contact person and gather military documents for further information. Manipulate several electricity generators to shut down the lights in a troop camp and of the airport. Use the cover of darkness while you attack them. After neutralizing a pilot crew of a sophisticated aircraft you need to eliminate a general. But be aware. As soon as he is informed about your presence he will try to escape. Generally, the whole island is loaded with Russian troops.

The key to success in this mission is teamwork, darkness and silence.

- Coop mission for 10 players at maximum

- Dynamic written communication with Crossroad

We had two cracks at this last night with 3 players. Unfortunately we lacked the number to do to quickly and quietly and all heel broke lose as dawn broke at the airfield. but looks like a good one IMHO.

I had a single player stab at this last night...liked it.

Tough but looks good. I like the fact your eyes adjust to the light. Not a big fan of swimming and losing all my gear though. Wow, looking forward to a 5/6 man run.

(look I made it sound all RPG so that we could attract some more players ;))

On a more serious note - sounds good. Do we know how many people have Arma and are playing it?

Installed and went through the training last night so there'll be +1 for another session tomorrow. :)

Same story again last night - although I think in the end we'd figured out that the general isn't necessarily at the airfield but could be anywhere on the island, which might lead us to more efficient tactics on our next attempt (well that and not doing the conga through a minefield).  More people would be great to help get through it quicker as it does kinda spoil it when you get to daybreak, the bullets start flying, and you only make progress by respawning.

Idea - is it possible to limit the number of lives you get? Having a set number of respawns for the team would be cool.

I haven't actually done any other missions to compare it against but I liked this one.

Respawns all depend on the mission creator. The othe mission we have on the server is limited to 8 respawns.

Ok, so we've now played it all the way through.

Sulky and Oldbloke joined me not long after the start and we worked our way through the airport to the village, found the armed chopper and finally killed the general. Not a bad showing from only 5-9 respawns each.

We were a bit directionless in the airport but it's a big area for three people and the only other complaint would be that a mobile spawn point would have been nice, but overall, I think we did a great job.

really enjoyed it, good play and we now know 3 sniper shots will take out any armoured window, and an rpg will take down a hind ;-)
 
 
can we find a mission when we can have harriers in support to nail the ruskies and bomb them back to the stoneage

Ok so, in looking for other missions to try, here are some observations to take from this one:

- Possibly designed for a few too many players compared to what we have just now.
- Mobile respawns would be nice.
- Limited respawns help give some structure to the mission, an end point other than 'carry on forever until you kill everyone or get bored', and some pressure to play tactically and cautiously.

I think more emphasis on the insertion (hurhur) would help make it more immersive - even if it was just taking the dinghys in from a carrier offshore rather than appearing on the beach with them.  Although getting taken in by chopper at night would be cool. :)

I'm not sure I entirely agree, we managed with three last night, I reckon this mission is suited to 4-6 players.

I think our failing in the past has been assuming the airport is the target.

My only issue with limited respawns is what happens when you run out and everyone else has 3 left? That'll end the game. I agree with it in principle, but for new players it'll be a turn off.

Mission wise I like it, but I think we need some more granular defined missions that say 'go here, kill everyone, get out' or 'go here, blow up stuff, go somewhere else, then extract'.

I like the idea for a chopper insertion though.
