All,

dMw currently support 1 L4D and 3 L4D2 servers.

Please remember that we treat this game like any other we support. We don't play for points, frags or bragging rights (much), it's about enjoying the games and playing them the way they are supposed to be played.

Enjoy!

QuoteL4D2 - Joining Details

Go to your Steam Game list (My Games tab).
Right click on Left4Dead2.
Select Properties.
Click "Set Launch Options..."
Add the following line:

+sv_search_key d34dm3n

You now have a choice.

If you *only* ever want to create a lobby for the dMw servers then select Method 1 else select Method 2.

Method 1

Create a text document called autoexec.cfg containing this line ...
Quotemm_dedicated_force_servers 77.108.135.45:27032,77.108.135.45:27033, 77.108.135.45:27034
Save in: your_path\Steam\Steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2\left4dead2\cfg
Create a lobby and select the gametype etc before inviting others to join you.

Method 2

Open your console within L4D2 and type ...
bind F10 "mm_dedicated_force_servers 77.108.135.45:27033,77.108.135.45:27032"
Press F10 *before* creating a lobby then select the gametype etc before inviting others to join you.
You will then create games only on our servers

We now have three L4D2 servers running for the community's fun 'n' frolics.

QuoteL4D2 Server#1 The Icepick is at cs2.deadmen.co.uk:27032
L4D2 Server#2 The Caboose is at cs2.deadmen.co.uk:27033
L4D2 Server#3 The Chainsaw is at cs2.deadmen.co.uk:27034

The servers currently have no password set (this may change) but they are tied to our Steam Group so they should still be private (this is a black art and nothing is bloody simple anymore).

  • If all servers in your autoexec.cfg are populated the creation of a new server will fail and therefore you will be forced to host the game on your own computer.
  • For the lobby system to allow creation of server to your designated server you must add the correct ip address to the autoexec.cfg
  • The autoexec must be saved as a cfg file and not a text document as i kept doing in windows 7 despite it being named as "autoexec.cfg" you must make sure it is saved as "all files" and not a "text file" from the drop down menu.
  • If a server is populated by the host using method 2 and the host drops from the server the server will close and kick all users out.
  • The prioritisation of servers to join is listed in the autoexec.cfg if you prefer a server put that first. Currently "icepick" is the preferred server as that is at the start of the list.

To create a game, type the following into console before creating a lobby, then cross your fingers, make a sacrifice to the Steam Gods and cross your fingers....

Left 4 Dead - Problems & Solutions

[Problem] How do I bring up the console?
[Solution] Use one of three different methods:
1- Go to your left4dead\cfg folder and open up config.cfg.
Add: bind "button" "toggleconsole"
[button=any keyboard button you wish to bind console to.]
2- In game, go to options and enable "Developer console".
3- Add -console to your Left 4 Dead shortcut. Right click L4D shortcut -> select properties -> look for the "Target" line and add -console to the end:
"C:\games\Left 4 Dead\left4dead.exe" -console

[Problem] How do i disable intro videos?
[Solution] Add -novid to your Left 4 Dead shortcut. Right click L4D shortcut -> select properties -> look for the "Target" line and add -novid to the end:
"C:\games\Left 4 Dead\left4dead.exe" -console -novid

[Problem] How do I bring up the server browser?
[Solution] Go to your left4dead\cfg folder and open config.cfg. Add: bind "button" "openserverbrowser".
[button=any keyboard button you wish to bind the server browser to.]
Server browser doesn't work in non steam versions, it will show up but not function.

[Problem] I can't see my or any servers in lobby, even if we are in same lan/hamachi.
[Solution] Make sure server and client is using sv_lan 0, make sure all use the latest hamachi version, some how it seems like Vista machines wont find any servers in lobby but XP users will find. If you did the above and you can't find any servers type connect ip:port in console.

[Problem] I get Class C error when I try to join
[Solution] Make sure you use latest hamachi and sv_lan is 0. Then type connect ip:port.

[Problem] I get connection timed our after 10 retries.
[Solution] Make sure server port is forwarded and firewalls are configured / turned off.

[Problem] My L4D is crashing to desktop.
[Solution] #1- If you use Vista, disable visual themes when running the game.
#2- Disable V-Sync in advanced video options.
#3- Turn off Multicore in advance video options.
#4- Make sure Steam Cloud is disabled. [see next problem]

[Problem] Cannot get rid of Steam cloud - Game keeps crashing!
[Solution] If you left Steam Cloud checked and cannot run the game without it crashing:
1- Go to Registry Key in regedit:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam\Apps\1\Cloud
It will have a default value of 0x00007fff (32767) meaning steam cloud is enabled
2- Set the value to 0 to disable steam cloud.
-OR-
delete this key and the dialog box will pop up again next time you run left4dead.exe.

Two more public servers created ...

L4D2 Server#4 The Coldslab at cs2.deadmen.co.uk:27035

L4D2 Server#5 The Fullstop at cs2.deadmen.co.uk:27036

These servers tend to fill up quickly and regularly and, naturally, have adverts pointing to the community :)
