How fried are my pc?

Back in december the psu died in my usual pc. Naturally i rushed out and bought a replacement, however, after installment and plugging the power back in, all the fans started running, and i got no response from the power-on button. After some quick hotline, it was believed my mobo had died as well. Giving it was friday mid-afternoon just before christmas, i went and bought another pc, to keep on playing star-wars.
Since then i haven't given the old machine much thought, untill now.

Any thoughts on if the mobo can be salvaged, or i have to buy a new, with cpu ofc.?

Depending on the damage to the Mobo or where the damage is, it could be potentially repaired, however if its not visible damage or if its in a critial area that cant be bypassed or replaced then the Mobo is essentially useless.

I did look it over to see if anything looked burned, but couldn't see anything. So guess it will be new over the line.

Anyone recommend a decent set-up when i expect to get my hands on a i7 sandy bridge?

Maybe a capacitor is damaged internally (which can happen without showing damage, although only in a small % of the time) or a resistor is fragged but owing to the size of these on mobos its nigh on impossible to spot, or a track is damaged in one of the PCB layers......... either or,

even in the military where costs are ridiculously tight we replace mobos now rather than repair them unless its a legacy bit of kit, so go on treat yourself to a new set up

Budget and purpose?

By purpose are you wanting a full on Gaming rig or just something that will play most games and still be good for work? obviously purpose dictates cost increase

I've seen upgrade packages for around 4000 dkk. But that's a couple of months back, and with the new ivy bridge out, i suspect prices on sandy bridge going down a little.
Budgetwise, around 400Â£ for a complete package with mobo and cpu.
Doesn't necessarily have to be danish shops kreg, i'm fine with buying from another eu-country, if it can make it a bit cheaper for me.

ye sometimes you can save 10-15% buying from EU shops, tho sometimes you get fined the import tax (25%) on a nice little Giro card from the tax authority, tho its never happened for me from germany.. So that would be a good place to look, ill go have a looksie..
What bits do you need.. the whole shebang or just mobo, cpu, ram, gpu? and bits do you currently have?

OT: Nr Snede isnt that like between Herning & Horsens?

Mobo, cpu, ram should be the things i need, gpu should still be working, otherwise i'll have a look at that afterwards, got some spare ones lying around.
I was under the impression, that you wouldn't get taxed when buying in the EU, only when going outside.

OT: ye it is, although i have moved since, should make an update :g:.

Check the PSU.

Some motherboards goes into a halt state if memory or other peripherals are fubar..

try unplugging, ram, HDD's, graphics and so, and try if it boots without, if i does, it should start beeping and such, if not, id bet your mobo is fubar.. else try a different psu
