If we go Public with the server I wouldn't mind an in house dMw tourney with some prizes (more social and fun) competitive matches are a no for me.

Quote from: b00n;362975I get what you mean, but the skills thing keeps coming up because it's not fun getting owned over and over. :)  We don't play the way you need to play to do well in competitive games, and I personally feel like I'm past going back to that.

I have been waiting quit a while with an answer on this but have to agree with b00n.
Matches were fun but as it says, it's a match. We had a Delta-company within dMw but I don't see this coming back untill the youngsters of dMw pick this up (Cheese and such, also TE_, definatly a good shot which sometimes I'm not allowed to be on the same side with).
Allready a few times it's mentioned that it shouldn't be about skill who plays but people in ED still take the matches serious and although we had good ratings on there when we sometimes got p0wned big time, it was more about a match, have fun, if we could win it with our "EVIL-Sadako-Tactics".

@ KKND, sorry for the late reply but I just wanted to see the answers before I posted. Hope you don't mind and get what I'm on about.

I waited for some answers too Duvel before I replied.

I'm going to be brutally honest now...

I'd love to see dMw making waves competitively, but I don't think it will happen just yet.
I've played in matches (css & CoD4) and usually we got hammered.
I think this was down to the fact that the people playing in those matches weren't the most skillful/competitive players that we had, they were just the ones willing to turn up on time and represent our community.
That's not a bad thing, I learned a lot from those games.

The most successful period for dMw competitively was when we had the likes of Hippy, Doris, VincentVega, Madness etc.
I don't think that we want to return to those days, but if I was going to pick a team out of our present players, who would stand a chance against other teams, it would be out of the following:
Ducky, KKND, Ice Hawk, Bk, TE, Butta (El Cochilco) and a couple of others.
Unless they put their names down we're looking at a stuffing.
Just my opinion, and I stand to be corrected.

I'll always say yes to a game, but I'll be crap.

The thing is I would be up for this though but as some people don't take orders or tips from people who have played this game over and over again it wont matter.
It all starts with playing by sound and knowing the maps and chokepoints. Although the sounds in CS:GO are sometimes way off (ghostfootsteps and such and the other night a scout kept firing).

I've taught a couple of guys how to play but they decided that while on our server they'd just hang back and pick off the leftovers from other players. This got me fed up while playing the previous CS-game as you wouldn't help out the team but just rank up your k/d. This doesn't help out for matches.
It used to be: Bomber calls it or the Charly-Deltaleader and go there but sometimes you feel stranded by yourself while the rest of the squad joins 20 seconds later while you're dead on the floor, killed without backup (and no, I still don't use a buyscript, just Oldschool, B+etc.).

If it's an oldschool Charly or Delta company member I'll follow or lead a rush without a hesitation when he calls it. Leading a rush is not bad, even when you get killed, it means after you get shot, the guy usually has to reload so the guy after you can kill him. BTW: The guy with the bomb should never rush up first. These were some general rules which might be good te be reinstated but as said, it's just my opinion.

Also some guns on the new CS:GO seem to be overpowerd for closequarters like the MP90.

I've also mentioned other tips while playing but sometimes they get ignored.

Sorry for the rant and such but this is my point of perspective.

EDIT: Also a well placed Flashbang in a chokepoint can keep a defending enemy away so your squad can rush up.
If anyone wants to get some tips while playing then let me know.

I think the only way dMw would be competitive in matches would be to have a core group of people that just played, back when I played matches regularly it basically fell down to whoever was online at the time to fill in - & that's never gonna win matches.

If we go into this to play & win then by all means go for it & I wouldn't mind dusting of my old self & having a go, but if it's just for fun then I see it being pretty pointless & we might aswell stick to just messing about on the servers.

Don't worry Blunt I'll play :D

oh wait, I'm terrible -.-

Count me out I'm afraid. I'll stick to having a laugh on the server with you all :)

Don't get me wrong Chaos,
I'm not saying that we should only pick from those players I've named (and a couple I haven't, it was late Duvel, I was tired)
But that we should all decide whether we are going to compete for fun or seriously, and to be realistic about it.

Don't agree with this at all I believe it's how the advice is offered (time/place/tone/manner it is being said in).

I agree with Blunt at how it has to be decided to either be a social/competitive styleee not both.

Agree with DD, sometimes when so called 'Advice' is being given it almost feels like your a little kid being told off for something, that's probably why some people choose to avoid the 'Advice' as they feel they are being moaned at (im not saying this happens all the time and im not saying its anyone in particular).  Encouraging someone to try something is probably a better approach.

As for matches i quite like the idea of us being competitive, even if i am the worst player ever to play this game.  Its pretty simple in my eyes, if you dont enjoy playing competitively in a match then dont put your name forward if a match was arranged, if you like it or want to play in a match then put your name forward, we all have different preferences, simples.

We will always have  laugh on our server and i cant see that changing but if there are some people that fancy playing matches i dont see why they shouldnt be given the opportunity :g:

It's also about how some people take advice as they allways think it's in the wrong time/place/tone/manner no matter what.

This series of Pro tips is excellent

have a look at the others in the series, they are really handy even if you just want to play casually

Quote from: DuVeL;363396There's a difference between saying: "You can better use burstfire for long distance" or people saying you are moaning about someone TeamAttacking you 3 rounds after eachother in 1 map.

I totally agree Duvel, telling someone "You can better use burstfire for long distance" is advice. telling someone "ahhh come on! *deep breath down the mic* You can better use burstfire for long distance for god sake " isn't....(thats not a quote from anyone by the way thats just an example) and i agree its not nice to be hit from friendly fire, but it happens and the people that accidentially do it dont really need someone in their headphones moaning at them, they need encouragement and a pointer on where they went wrong.

Quote from: DuVeL;363396It's also about how some people take advice as they allways think it's in the wrong time/place/tone/manner no matter what.

I dont understand this, you can take the wrong tone or manner when posting something on a forum or when emailing someone and in instant messaging,... but when its over a mic on TS or ingame you can totally read what the person talking to you is saying and thinking, hence why you can tell if your being moaned at.

RizZy

can we not turn this into one long bitch fest about what "some people" do or don't do?

Lets not forget that english isn't the primary language for alot of people that play in dMw - add that to the differing levels of commitment & it can quite easily cause problems.

KKND

I only made this poll to see who's interested playing matches nothing more then that.
Any comments and ideas are always welcome but i have too agree with RizZy lets not start bitch fest here.

Sparko

its not my intention to start a bitch fest at all, i was just getting a point accross as to why some people might be reluctant to play in matches thats all, so its on topic :D no harm done
