Tesco has teamed up with Blinkbox to launch a free TV and film streaming service for Clubcard holders. Clubcard TV is totally free of subscription and pay per view charges and will be ‘free forever’.
 â€œWe offer thousands of movies and TV shows for free. There are no  schedules, no subscriptions, no fees â€" as long as you are a Tesco  Clubcard customer and you have access to the internet, you’re free to  enjoy Clubcard TV. And we’re constantly updating our movies and TV  shows, so there’s something for everyone,” said Tesco.
 The service is similar to Netflix and Lovefilm, but with the promise  of being free forever, it is certainly a very tempting offer. The  success of Tesco’s Clubcard TV will boil down to what shows are on  offer, and with the likes of Netfilx investing heavily in original,  big-budget content, Tesco will have to get some really popular shows and  films on board to steal customers away from other streaming services.

'Free' rings all kinds of alarm bells. Quality shows and films cost money, so someone has to pay. Unless it's another Crackle or stuffed full of adverts i don;t see how it will work. Still worth keeping an eye on for when we see a schedule of content.

Registered too. Lacking in content, but fast service and a relatively painless registration process and UI. Worth keeping an eye on in case the content picks up.

Thought I would give a quick review of Blinkbox in the format of Pro's and cons, so here it is:

Pro:
No subscription required
Play on up to 5 devices
No expiry or limit to the number of time you want to watch
You can Download the films
Works with smart TV's, PC and Tablets (via streaming and/or downloaded)
When you buy a DVD or Bluray from Tesco's, it will add the film to your library automatically

Con:
Not so much of a con, but prices are competitive with others
Streaming quality via TV is not great (non HD )
Can only play it on a Blinkbox App or their own bespoke video player (i.e not in windows media player)
HD is 720P not seen 1080P
Not compatible with mobile phone

It's quite neat and I'm hoping it will continue to Improve, biggest gripes is that they need full HD content and mobile capability, streaming needs to be 720P minimum. One thing that was a surprise was when I logged in today to see that Startrek had appeared, about a minute of thinking I realised it automatically adds films purchased from Tesco, so wondering that if I never opened it and returned it for a refund, will the film still be available on my PC?!? Suspect not however, if I was to change the format to a MKV or MP4....

Currently I'm enjoying the full three seasons of Game of Thrones, all priced at less than a comparable box set price. Series 3 won't be available on Blue Ray for a long while yet. 720p only really is an issue on very large screens. On my 46" according to the experts I would not be able to see the difference in pixel density anyway so that's not a problem for me.

But to be honest is was the only way i was going to be able to see GoT without being a Sky subscriber so a no brainer for me.
