Seemed to have worked ok for me, took about 45 days  to update and install but haven't come across any problems.....as yet

ArithonUK

Installed without issue, although it took about four reboots.

Since then, PunkBuster is now broken and I cannot get on BF3.

Otherwise, it's the same as Win 8.0 as far as I can see.

As some of you know the update broke my ability to use my 2nd monitor. Lots of people affected who, like me, drive their 2nd monitor from the Intel processor.

This is the thread I'm following waiting for Intel to fix their drivers.

I was actually on the verge of buying a second monitor until you mentioned the problem at the LAN, so I'll also be watching this carefully.

Decided to update anyway, more fool me.

The problem I now have is that I got caught by the 'log in with your Microsoft account' things and did not figure out that I had to go via a 'create a new account' option to find the 'sod off microsoft and let me use my local login details' option.   So now I have a very long & strong Lastpass password for my local PC login instead of my more memorable local password that I used to use to log into my home system.

Does anyone know how, to get rid of the Mircsoft Live login from this account and revert to my old local login details?      I found one tip online which just ended up creating a new account (pointless) and I just want to return to my old login details.

help please!

Ignore me, I found it.

Account Settings, Disconnect.

It then told me I could not use my normal Local account name as it was in use - BY WHOM?!?!?!?!?     It's my damn PC and I have not set up any other account on it, so who the heck is using my old account name on my PC?

It's bloody annoying when an update system is designed in such a way as to force you to use a Microsoft account login (yes I now know how to avoid it, but it is entirely less than obvious and most people will miss it).

Seriously frustrating & not happy with MS for that. :frusty:

This W8.1 sounds like it was conceived from the deep bowels of this earth and is not fit for anyone. Glad I'm still with W7 but if W8 is a sign of things to come then bye bye MS.

Seems Microsoft is slowly turning windows 8 back into windows 7. Time will tell.

trying to avoid the 8.1 install on my non-gaming laptop - requiring an alt+f4 to get out of a full (metro style) screen telling me to "upgrade today" every now and again. My old w7 laptop is so much easier to use, wish I could downgrade the other one...

My W8 desktop fails utterly to upgrade to 8.1, but it's also not nagging me to upgrade so.... Yea :-/

I did a clean install of 8 and then immediately updated to 8.1. With Windows I never fully trust the upgrade option. To be honest I tend to clean install Lubuntu (Ubuntu light) as well.

8.1. update 1:

Looks like tile interface will be hidden by default when booting the machine, also the power management button will be on the start screen
