Maybe they should release the dog-fighter module before they ask this.

Until people get on there and get a feel for the implemented flight dynamic, it's finger in the air stuff.

What's HOTAS?

Keyboard and Mouse for me as I don't have a joystick.

But as Lib says it would be nice to know what we are expected to do so then we can think about how we can best do it.
I do exactly what the little voices tell me to.

PC Specs:- Black box with some fans that go whirrr, a few lights, things inside that get warm, headphones, keyboard (a clicky one), mouse (with buttons and no squeak), disks (2-off SSD and HDD) and a monitor of sufficient proportions.

HOTAS, an abbreviation for Hands On Throttle-And-Stick

Aye, they're quite heavily used in flight sims (like FSX) as trying to control both a joystick and a keyboard at the same time can get a wee bit tricky.

As Lib said, when the DFM comes out it will be fun to see what works, what does not better and what doesn't work well!   Currently I have a Logitech joystick with a throttle and some extra programmable buttons, so I'm hoping that it will do the job.

Whilst joysticks are relatively inexpensive, the money you can spend on a HOTAS goes from 'not a lot' to 'omg' levels as you move from 'gaming' towaards 'sim'.   For example, take a look at the sheer volume of control options on just the throttle section of this Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog which retails for over £300:

Having worked on the typhoon all i can say is that Hotas's are great, but it can take a while to know what each switch does, especially when there is a shift key and a 2nd fuction key so that all the switches, button, etc has 3 differant uses, and the control stick is the same.

I still use my trusty ms ff2

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

I doubt they will be penalising control methods, so any in that poll should be fine.

Personally, keyboard and mouse as I forgot how to use a joystick.  Haven't used one for 20 or so years..
Guild Wars 2 - Characters: Dragelis / Estril / Viliona
Battle.net - LydonB#2167
Warframe - LydonB

There is no way to tell mate. I will be looking to purchase a hotas near the time of end of beta for this and elite

Whilst I agree that they won't be penalising any particular control system, that assumes that they all start off on a level playing field, which they don't.   Yes you'll be able to control it via keyboard and mouse, but I doubt very much if this will be the most effective way of doing it and would anticipate HOTAS being the strongest contender here.

If you then combine HOTAS with some kind of motion control like Track IR or Oculus then I think we would have a definite winner.  The ability to look at a point that your ship is not pointing at will give you a massive advantage.
