Star Citizen's Dog Fighting Module is due some time in April and I realised I haven't got a joystick to use with it :g:

There's plenty to choose from but, as a left-hander, I'm a bit unsure whether I'll be happy using a joystick with my right hand. I use a mouse right-handed but a joystick might be a more difficult proposition.

So I've opted for the Thrustmaster T16000.M which can be configured for either left or right handed use. Should get it in a couple of days so I'll let you know what I think.

As an aside ...

There's a number of threads on the RSI forum concerning whether or not an HOTAS is necessary for a space sim. The argument against seems to be centred around the perception that fine throttle control is only necessary in flight sims, not in space and that most 'control' for dog fighting with be via the joystick controlled thrusters. It will be interesting to see how this develops particularly as an SC badged HOTAS is in the pipeline.

I currently have a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro (which I know is useless for lefties) and I'm planning to use that for the DFM when it is released in late April (?18th iirc).  10th April will be a Subscriber preview the day before PAX in Boston, then on show during PAX, then released to the backers post-PAX - at least this is what I thought I read.

I'm going to play the DFM with the joystick, see how it goes and what type of controls are needed.   Post DFM launch I will wait still further to see what RSI do with a SC-specific piece of hardware.   They are in discussions with a number of controller manufacturers who are keen to make an SC product (I expect white labelled not totally bespoke), so it won't be until later in the year that we get to know whether or not a joystick, a custom SC-joystick, a HOTAS, or a custom SC-HOTAS will work out best for us.   How we're able to map all of the functions to our own controller will also have an impact, so I guess we'll just need to wait and see.

Joystick for April's DFM, then proper decision towards the beginning of 2015 when all will hopefully have become clearer.
