I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

No Man's Sky - Hello Games - Guildford. Certainly have to tip your hat to the Brits being in the forefront. This game also looks lovely.

In video the ships in a dogfight enter the atmosphere and the detail of the planet comes to life!

We've always been in gaming.
Sadly Bullfrog Productions is no more, but Lionhead Studios is still going (both also based in Guildford)

I'm sure there are more if anyone knows :)

Bullfrog did some cracking games. Most of the Amiga stuff I used to play was English... at least thats how I recall. I won't ruin this by wiki-whacking but... the Bitmap Brothers and Sensible Software spring to mind. I think they're both from the UK. Empire Interactive were legendary. If anyone reading this hasn't played a game called Dreamweb - I suggest you do!

No Man's Sky is for PS4 and not confirmed for PC, whereas Elite: Dangerous is for PC and not even hinted at being available on consoles, so a very loose definition of "competition" there.

Star Citizen isn't out of Alpha until next year and by all accounts will be a very different game - more space-combat arcade game with FPS, than space simulator. A very good game if it lives up to its promise and one I will likely pick up as well.

Frankly, Kerbal Space Program is the only "current" rival - and again a very different title.

I don't understand the whole "you must support one team" attitude, especially from the BBC. What are they, forum trolls?

Next headline "Alien: Isolation faces stiff competition from Evolve!" well, they're both FPS games with Aliens in them. Never mind that only one is actually available and that they are two very different titles, but heck, it makes good click-bait headlines eh?

Me either. If it's good - support it. If it isn't - don't. I don't see why you have to pick a side. Space sim market isn't exactly saturated.

Typical journalistic nonsense, preaching to the uninitiated who have no clue.

Personally, I'll be playing both (if I can find the time, that is!).
