Their two main problems are quite infamous(deadzone, and wobbly stick).  It also depends on when you purchased them, the old models are generally fine (apart from deterioration over time), the new (matcatz) ones have problems and are generally a gamble.

Anyway, here's some links to some fixes.

The x55s have some issues with the stick requiring considerable force(stiff stick) to start moving it due to how the implemented the spring cup thingy.  This was supposedly fixed in later models.

Here's a thread about their horrid service.  Again, it's a hit/miss scenario with them.

I've bit the bullet and gone for the x52 Pro. I've given up trying to emulate my excellent left-handed Elite setup within Star Citizen so I'm going to have to play right-handed with a Hotas. I will, therefore, be the fleet's official 'low hanging fruit' ... ripe and ready to pluck.

I'm a lefty too OB, and found using a right handed HOTAS pretty easy to get used to.

I went with the X55 in the end and have had good times with it so far - as people have pointed out the stick can be a be stiff (innuendo combo x2) but both the throttle and stick seem to loosen up once you've been using them for a while. My only complaint is Star Citizen seems to keep losing my preferences every time it updates so thats getting a bit frustrating! I may have to just download a profile I like the look of and keep installing it everytime the game updates.

Yes, it does: the settings are stored in a us folder in the USER folder, and the folder is wiped each time a new patch is downloaded. The best way around this is to create a new folder structure alongside the USER folder, and copy your customised settings into it; then following a patch you can simply copy the contents back to the USER folder again.

For sure the backup is a must ZigZag. It takes just too long a time to remap everything each time. CIG only add one or two new functions per update so the old controller XML tends to work fine with 5 mins tuning.

Obsydian mate. You suggest a voice attack profile for adjusting power and shield consoles in AC. Any chance you could share the link to the profile you borrowed? I just want to keystrokes to create macros. I can't get on with voice attack, I'm Scottish and slur my words too regularly [emoji14]

Hey Bert,

No problem, here's a link to the profile on the RSI forums:

Alternatively, if you have a cheap tablet lying around, you could use Roccat Power Grid for power and shields (which is what I'm planning on doing):

Thanks for the tips, I'll be sure to backup like a pro from now on

I've got a Glaswegian friend who has an Xbox One. Watching him trying to use the kinect is a tragedy - well, more a comedy for me. You haven't lived until you've seen a man threaten to kill an piece of electronic equipments parents

For those like me running Windows 10 with a Saitek HOTAS you will want to checkout the beta W10 drivers. These fixed a really annoying bug I had with my X52Pro.

Follow the instructions to ensure a 'proper' install.
