New System Time - Feedback on Choices & Alternatives please!

As far as I can tell this makes no difference BB, although the system has been down more than up over the last 24 hours.  It's currently in the back of my car and I'll be going to crack some heads with it tomorrow morning bright and early :norty:

Could the PSU be the culprit? Also, not trying to tell you how to suck eggs but have you tried reseating the CPU etc?

Have a look through here TL (first 4 pages are cack)....seems some people have been having problems.....long read (15 pages) but looks like some good advice for timings\settings. At least one guy is getting the BSOD's and there is lots of advice around that.

did you try a controller card? that way you can check if its the mobo raid is the culprit?
 
quite worried here... got nearly the same parts in the mail.. but ive got a bgf 680i mobo.

Raid controller is on the mobo - but that would not explain the memory issues.  The one you have is a reference board.

Well the problem has been solved - it was either insufficient or poorly installed cooling on the southbridge.  A new heatsink has been put on and the system is running sweet.  I have settled on the following:

Memory @ 8888
Multipler @ 13
Clock 3.54GHz

Temps:
CPU 46 °C
GPUs 51 °C
HDD 41 °C
Case 38 °C

The new Dell monitor (3007WFP-HC) has arrived too (piccies to follow) and what can I say about it:  it is simply stunning.  The system runs both CS Source and WoW @ 2560 x 1600 resolution.  IN source it maxes fps all the time at that resolution and in WoW it rarely drops below 60fps.  The colours are vibrant, I can't detect any ghosting and I have yet to find any dead pixels.   Immersion gaming is here, sitting in front of it playing a game you are simply awestruck by the beauty of some of the graphics.  Wow (pun intended).

For those that remember this PC (called Vadim) from January 2007 when it was first built, I have some news for you.

It is my sad duty to report that Vadim passed away last Monday.    An autopsy was carried out and concluded that it was a total failure of the nervous system (aka motherboard).  Morticians drained all bodily fluids this morning and put them down the sink.   All internal organs have been extracted for destruction or sale on the North American black market.  

After a troubled start Vadim served faithfully in the full-time gaming division, delivering stonking good 2560x1600 experiences and great frame rates for 7 years.  Vadim then retired and spent the last 2 years undertaking light duties as a very silent office PC for me.

Vadim leaves a large family: HP Microserver NAS, Bipak router, two Chromebooks, Dexterous' PC, an ASUS laptop, several barebones sytems and the most recent addition to the family, Obsidian (the replacement gaming PC).

RIP Vadim.  Thank you for your service.  My clients and I will miss your luminous green glow in my office.
