The fantastic actor with his very iconic voice have sadly passed from the effects of cancer. Another big loss in the acting community. Rest in Peace Alan and thanks for all your fantastic work from Die Hard and Harry Potter to Sweeny Todd and Love Actually.

Maybe there\'s something to be said for being different. We are who we are. What more could we ask for?

Shame :(

It was a crap movie but I loved the way he played the Sheriff in Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves. Die Hard must also be up there for me.

Agreed such a shame

this does vex me !!!

Gutted :(

His role in Die Hard for me will be my most memorable, mainly because it was the film of all films when I was growing up.

Loved his role in Prince of Theives too. Massive loss to the entertainment world, and seemed to be a great guy

was a great actor and he could pull off a music video too

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

Another legend gone, what a fine actor & general all round decent human being he was.

Today I learned that  for the 'drop' scene at the end of Die Hard, they released him a couple of seconds early - that look of shock on his face as he goes is apparently quite real!

Oh and you're all overlooking his best role - Metatron!

Very sad to hear this as I think one of the great actors of our time and hugely under rated by mainstream film.

Agree with Tut he was epic as Metatron and great as Alexander Dane / Galaxy Quest.

I remember seeing him in London Savoy theater in a production of Richard the 3rd and he played (obviously) King Richard which I have to say was one of the greatest performances of any Shakespeare character I have ever seen.... Even better than Patrick Stewart in Hamlet at The Globe which he won an award for.
