Here are some screenshots:

1) Approach with the NPC ship to the right, scan target is a black oval, red star is where you land facing away from the base as the SRV deploys through the rear of the ship, green arrow is approach direction. Land far enough away to allow your turret to deploy, if you're too close to your own ship you cannot deploy and scan!

2) Closer view with the scan terminal again an oval, star where you park your SRV to do the scan, green arrow the direction your ship is from your scan point.

3) View from the ship to the base, with scan terminal, SRV location and ship direction again.

4) View from the actual scan point.

5) From turret mode, make sure to select the terminal otherwise you cannot scan it!

Hope this is clear, if not just hop on TS and I can explain further. For sure, you are not bugged for scanning, everybody thinks they are first time they try it.

A few other notes:

- Keep selling whats in your hold as it will fill to max preventing further missions from being accepted.
- You only need to scan 1 terminal, there are 3 on the base but the one I use is safest because....
- There are 2 big guns at the other side of the base which would own you if you approached from that direction.
- You don't need to go further into the base than I show in picture 2) above as you can scan from distance in turret mode.
- Make sure you have a reverse key mapped and a key to deploy and undeploy turret, so you can do the job quicker with less chance of damage or a fine.
- If you take the majority of scan missions from the Empire aligned factions you'll gain ranks with them super fast and get Naval Rank Missions unlocking new ships!

Cheers again 👍

Pics are really useful thanks, though I have ironically worked out a few of your key points in my trial and error approach... from landing reversed to the base after my initial "*** did the base go ?" on exiting the ship to reversing like a mad man, though in my case not because the scan was complete but because I was getting shot to pieces trying to initiate the scan ! Twice I got back in my ship with >5% SRV hull remaining 😳

My issue with scanning has been multiple-fold, initially not realising I needed to be in turret mode, then not having a key bound for scanner, then (and currently) not being able to target the data point once I'm in turret mode ! I'm still unsure on that, I'm assuming I'm missing another key bind ....

Hopefully online this afternoon to give it another try !

Cheers again for your help,
Andy

Key binds like target forward and scan can be set in SRV mode as the same keys you use in your ship flying. I can't recall if they're mapped already by default, obviously not if you don't have them on already.

Here's a list of default keybinds for reference.

I use T to target during flight so i assume that should work.... logging in shortly so i'll test !

albert

Just go to the relevant section in the controll settings and map it. Triack is when you see a grey diamond you can hit T and select it

So this was fun/massive ball ache 😳

Logged back in to find a bunch of expired missions and subsequent Rep drop ! 3 were still active so following your tips pulled those off clean as a whistle, which thankfully activated a bunch more, I just managed to squeeze those in tonight and made a million in one short run.

Supposedly the ability to stack missions is being reduced in 2.3 so in between watching the football and moto gp, plus taking my Mrs to the pub for lunch and walking the dog I'm going to grind the hell out of it tomorrow! If I can make 10mill tomorrow I'll be happy and chalk it off to experience, I've learnt how to use the SRV, I've ventured further afield, my Cobra is very nicely specked out and I've had lots of planetary landing practice, though I'm still terrible at judging the distances in OC and Glide Mode, plus if I can hit 10 mill I'll have doubled my spare money.

If they nerf the mission stacking Monday I'll head to dMw space and join the party ....

Thanks for the guidance Bert, I don't suppose anyone is ever online daytimes ? Or is there a specific evening everyone meets up ?

Cheers

Good you've got it sussed. The orbital cruise and glide thing just takes practice. Normally try and descend between 40 and 60 degrees no faster than 50% speed and you should exit glide 5Km from your target. If it moves you can adjust in glide.

At the weekend I'm normally online throughout the day if I'm at home. Then evenings you'll find at least a few guys online from 7-8 until late. When 2.3 comes out we'll probably try multicrew so for sure come along for that. The ancient ruins mission should also be fixed and that should provide some fun.

OK, well i finally got SRV Operation, OC, Glide phase etc all worked out & made 20 mill + on those runs today.... certainly better than grinding out 150k at a time so thanks again.

I'm about to head over to dMw Alliance space, but thought i'd pick up a new ship on route, but keeping the Cobra also as it's very nicely set up now, was thinking of an Asp Explorer, seems like a bigger version of the Cobra III in that it's a bit of a jack of all trades, i know 20 mill probably won't even 1/2 way equip it properly, but i enjoy the upgrade process, so before i do, just checking there's no reason i SHOULDN'T buy the Asp ?

albert

For combat, don't buy an Asp, for everything else, all good.

Are there plenty of ships for sale in dMw Alliance space or thereabouts ? i'm guessing i may as well head over and buy one nearby instead of paying to move it or the Cobra 150+ LY ?

albert

For sure there's high tech systems close by.

Thanks for the tip towards Engineering Albert... i stripped the Asp so i could make longer jumps and hoped over to buy the meta-alloy required for Farseer then shot down to see her, picking up a ton of exploration data on route, i acquired a nice FSD upgrade right away with mats i'd accidentally gathered previously & after handing in some exploration data to her i'm at lvl 3 already, and now feel like i actually have something to do between collecting stuff for engi and running missions for dMw ... have to say i'm enjoying this much more than 12 months ago !

Now to try mining with the SRV ....
