Evening all,

After about a year off i'm tinkering with Elite again and i'm after some guidance. I have a Cobra with average equipment, 32t cargo, ok weapons, etc and about 3 mill in the bank. It seems i can make 150k+ runs easily with short hops around the vague area near Sol but i feel i'm not really "doing" anything...

I'm not good or bad rep' with anyone and have not pledged allegiance to anyone (don't know how or why either TBH) so i guess the galaxy is my oyster ?

I'd like to aim for a good size ship with more possibilities, passengers, mining, etc, just to experience more of the game, but dont really want to grind out 50mil running Biowaste !!

Any ideas ?

Cheers
Andy

Hi Andy,

Probably easier if you come on TS, there are missions going on that can earn over 10mill CR pretty quickly if you know what you're doing.

I think a few guys have also come back to the game recently asking exactly the same question as you.

In short, enter Solo mode, keep 16T cargo space, get as good an FSD as you can afford (A class preferably) buy a SRV module and an SRV, (if you don't have Horizons then that'll be an issue).

Go to the system called Meene, enter Felice Dock, a mission called Decoding the Ancient Ruins will be given to you automatically.

Fly to Synuefe XR-H D11-102  planet 1 B.

Land at the Ruins Site, and use http://www.nusantara.com.my/EliteDangerous/ruinsstd.html?type=beta.1&ruin=1&sysplanetmoon=SYNUEFE%20XR-H%20D11-102%20A%201%20B&lat=-31.7347&lng=-128.9212&wip=0&cred=Mortlestiltskin,%20DippyNikki,%20Alienasa,%20Allocator,%20A_Spec,%20Kaltern&w=1680&h=1066 to locate 2 of each of the 6 artifacts.

Use https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1wxBcGy8zl2-Clv5yf57nTBtDqRan41SZKpppJrmwA3c/pubhtml# and the Beta Tab to scan the 13 Solo obelisks with the combinations of the earlier objects you picked up in your SRV hold.

1mill credits per scan, up to 13 on that site.

Return to Meene and cash in your mission.

Leave Felice Dock and fly out 3Km, go back in after requestion docking.

Do it all again.

On the topic of other things to do, dMw are located at Brackett Prospect in the Zeta Trianguli Australis system. We are actively trying to take over the system by doing missions for the in game faction called the dMw Alliance.

Guys are around there fighing and getting bounties, doing missions and generally having fun. Engineering your ship is a new thing, worth trying out, plus when v2.3 comes out next week we can do some multi-crew.

Cheers Bert !

I just rattled up another million, back to Sol, equipped the Cobra with class A FSD & Power plant (required for the Size 2 beam lasers i just bought) and now have 150k ish credits left, but i can jump 20lt yrs at a time at least.

Input Meene and it's only 160+ly and 33 jumps .... so i'll leave it until tomorrow lol

I'll try join you guys on TS when i can, is anyone ever on daytime ? i'm sure i'll need to pick your brains again on that artifact mission but thanks for pointing me there, once i've arrived and built a bit of breathing room in the bank back up i'll head towards dMw Alliance area.

I'm an original backer so have the lifetime pass thingy, i've already got the SRV and tried it out last time i played, but just for fun not for any purpose, and multi-crew sounds fun, but not heard of Engineering ? Also if i'm travelling over to a unexplored zone (for me) do i need to change the person i'm supporting ? this political bit is still a mystery to me !

Cheers

Fuel scoop, I forgot to mention. The trip to Meene should only be 8-9 jumps from Zeta. Then you have about 15 jumps to the ruins site. The fuel scoop is essential.

Also do you know you can store your modules now, so it you have something you want to keep,, just store it and use it later when you need it.

Power Play is pretty safe, you are hostile in system you get interdicted more often but if you have no illegal goods, they never attack. It's not worth joining a power play faction until you know what you want out of it. Mostly people do it to get the Tier 3 reward which is a special item only available to certain factions. So I just got the high powered shields from supporting Aisling Duval. I still need to get the Class 8 version, which is a lot of CR so you see the conundrum, you need money to get full use of some of these rewards.

If you use your SRV, you need to find Sulphur and Phosphorus, as a prioirty, so you can refuel the SRV, especially if you're a long way from a station. Otherwise you need to go to a port to refuel your buggy which is a real waste of your time. Also Iron and nickel are handy for repairing the SRV although you can just board your ship and the SRV repairs. (Like the fighters also do if you get a ship launched fighter).

Cheers again,

I shall grab a fuel scoop before leaving Sol. I'd noticed the store modules option, seems a nice touch, nothing i replaced yesterday was worth keeping though, all C/D class bits, so trading them in was fine. One question on ship loadout specifically for the mission i'm about to start on, you say to keep 16t of the cargo space, i'll put my other 16t cargo hold in storage as i remember it was a pain to find, and it seems a fuel scoop will take up some of that space, but is there anything else essential or useful i can put in there also ?

Power Play makes a little more sense now then, i'll reevaluate when i get to dMw space !

I'd totally forgot i need to fuel/repair the buggy... i guess a bit of experimentation before wandering to far from the ship is a good idea, do i remember correctly that you can call your ship to you if you end up driving miles away and can't get back ?

Yes you can dismiss your ship whilst on the ground. For the ruins, you are in solo anyways so should just park it nearby as you need to get items out of it regularly. It would be a good idea to land outside the ruin site and go for a run in your buggy and pickup some resources (shoot the rock and cargo hatch scoop rocks).

I would put a fuel scoop in where the second 16T cargo bay was.

When you sell modules you lose 10% of their original value, which is fine when you're plush but not so when you're skint. So I would avoid selling expensive items, especially if you will probably need them again in future.

You could also try this if you just want easy money:

https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/5sybzc/psa_earning_2530milhour_at_fehu_planetary_scan/

I'm not sure if you die every time or there is a way to do the mission and get out alive but suggest following the advice.

I've somehow managed to squeeze a fuel scoop in where i had an FSD Interdicter thingymawatsit, it's not the greatest, 2C i think, but the info i found says it's still only 4 minutes ish i think to refuel... though i could be wrong... so i still have my 32t of cargo space.

I did just notice though i now only have 130k and my rebuy cost is 190k  .... so i'll do a quick run before i set off on the long haul to make sure i can rebuy should the worst happen !

albert

The skimmer missions is far safer to do as you can just take a throw away sidewinder and put a small cargo bay and an SRV module into it. Try that. The ruins mission will be more fun to do after 2.3 I believe.

So fly your Cobra to Quince and buy a sidewinder. then follow the video above, one run will get you 5millCR.

Sounds like a plan ! not much time to get online today, but hopefully tomorrow i'll rack up a few million doing that run.... Then head to dMw space... do we know when 2.3 is due to go live ?

OK... i seem to be in a bit of a pickle... following the guide for the Planetary Scanning missions i've arrived at Fehu, with about 500k, and the only missions i can pick up to raise my Rep' so i can get ANY scan missions are Donation missions, they want money which i don't have enough of, or goods which i need to travel 150k+ LY to buy !! Just to raise my Rep a tiny bit..... if i go pirate hunting will that also raise my rep ? i'd really rather not travel 150k LY multiple times to pick up tons of rubish to get my rep up...

Or am i just being unlucky with missions and need to keep re-logging ?

albert

I think you probably have such a small amount of rep you just have to pickup any mission you can to get cordial with any faction, then the overall rep will rise over the course of a few runs.

Cheers Albert, that's what I did, only option was to donate credits to get to Cordial, nothing else was available, then hit the next issue of the station doesn't sell a small ship to use in the "self destruct rinse repeat" cycle so I'm having to use my Cobra and obviously not self destruct ... latest issue is SRV I can't get to scan ! Though a wiki search leads me to hope I may have solved that, we'll see later...

Apparently this is getting "fixed" in 2.3 by reducing the amount of stackable missions, so I hope I can get a few hours this weekend and try to grind a few million !

albert

I use my own ship as well, never been danaged yet, it's far too easy.

So you can fly to the base and land a short distance past the side that has less lights (keeping the NPC ship that is on the group to your right as you pass the base).

Scanning is pretty easy and isn't bugged actually. Take your SRV, towards the base and park between the 2 buildings with a clear reverse path out and a clear view of one of the scan terminals. The skimmers won't attack you until you scan and even then only if you linger in the trespass zone. So you basically scan from within the turret mode. When the scan is complete, only one is needed to complete all missions, you get a mission complete message pop up. Now is the time to bolt, exit that view and reverse like a crazy guy until you're out the zone. Then board the ship and fly off without a fine or damage.

That's what I'm doing right now. On TS if you want some advice.
