Doom 3 demo coming

Sample of id's just-golden shooter will be released sometime after the game ships next month.
Yesterday morning, id CEO Todd Hollenshead revealed on his .plan Web site that Doom 3 had gone gold. Eleven hours and "a few bottles of champagne later," he divulged more details about the long-in-development shooter.

To PC gamers, Hollenshead's biggest revelation was that a demo for Doom 3 is already in the works. "Our priority was finishing the game first and now we are turning our attention to the demo," he said. "We will release the demo as soon as it's done, but this probably won't happen until after the game has arrived on US store shelves." Hollenshead did not specify what content the demo would feature. GameSpot DLX users can reserve the demo today for automatic delivery when it finally arrives.

There was also good news for Macintosh and Linux users not chafing under the Windows yoke. "Linux binaries will be available very soon after the PC game hits store shelves," said Hollenshead. "There are no plans for boxed Linux games," he added. Mac users, however, will have to wait a little longer. "We won't release the OSX version until it's just as polished as the PC version," he said. "The date for OSX DOOM 3 remains 'when it's done,' but I can confirm that it's definitely coming."

Hollenshead also said that Doom 3 would be available directly from the id store and that he is working on an official FAQ.

Yup thats the route that I'm taking too. Pointless buying a game my pc wont run properly if at all. Looking at the specs required I should be alright though.

I heard that HL2 came out and was tested by testers. They said it was pretty cr*p so they went o well its not actualy finished yet... Um someone stole the code "honest" so we need some more time cough.. I do hope it does come out soon enough and not have to be reworked again  :(  Well doom3's out v soon so that will be nice  :)

AWell, it just performed atrociously on nvidia chipsets (ie under 10fps on a test rig that'd get 60fps with an equivalent ati card). That was ages ago though, so presumably now they've fixed that issue.
