YOU are just a filthy beast and your post didn't add anything to the discussion.

You got it about right though. He's good in bed, so I hear :D

as a relative LAN newbie (the last 2)...

and as someone who has tried to organise events/competitions on my watch...and familiar with the problems therein...

I was v. impressed with the smooth running and organisation of the events.

I know nothing of the switch problems...they were all taken care of by "someone" 8)

the saturday competion was organised by "someone" 8)

"someone" 8)  provided the longer cable that I needed, and the extension socket that I forgot.

"someone" 8)  helped me out with ip's etc.

and I had a fantastic weekend (twice) :D

Never having been to a LAN before, I didn't know quite what to expect...

I thouroughly enjoyed myself (as did NvG & Tox) and will keep coming as often as we can 8)

as we come from so far away, Friday afternoon is the earliest we can arrive...

but I wouldn't mind a competition in the evening and one saturday if possible

as TL & OB have enough on their plates IMHO...would it not be possible to pre arrange the Fri Night comp amongst ourselves before we go...

anyone going can put their names down on the forum, and we'll sort teams and a sit-down time beforehand...if you're not there, you're not there.

I'm quite keen to get these [BIG] boys onto CZ or CS...and see how big they really are :narnar:

A Friday night comp would prolly be good, about 10ish, when everyone is cut. Not organised before hand, just a 'We will start a competition at 10 - if you are there you play' or an 'organise a team of 4'

bit to regimented but maybe a timetable of games. Not saying you have to play x at x time, but a general 'people will be playing UT between 9-11, CZ 11-1 et, so you know that your game will be about.  (and BF2 will run 24/7 ;))

Teams in table lines for whatever, if your line isn't there, you sort it, TL and OB have enought to do, if you are short of players, unlucky.  CZ starts at 10am, table a vs table b, winners  play each other at 11. Fairly easy.

I don't think Ninj is complaining, just suggesting is how I took it, and I agree with soe of it, but I do like the freedom of it as is. A tough balance. We do seem to play less variety nowadays, but then I suppose that's the way it's evolved. I'd like to ry a few new things, but not lose the 'we are all adults and can pretty much do what we want' arrangement.

So....suggested comps, at suggested times, if you're in you're in, if you miss it, your team if they are playing miss out. Maybe a CZ ladder over the weekend. teams sort their own opponents.

The only 3 things I would change from the last LAN would be:

1. Get the whole day off work. As I didn't get there until gone 2pm and missed out on 2 hours of good drinking :(

2. Not get the 5am flight from Stansted to Ireland earlier in the week so I wasn't still knackered.

3. Sort the BF2 server out with BF2CC. It was just a shame with Oldie not coming, we had no one who knew how to configure the server.

More comps would be nice. but it's not easy to drag people away from the bar :)

May be if we could have the LAN forum up and running again. So we could run a few smaller comps.

1. Approved Games List should = Approved Games Servers running 24/7

- I do not believe with the kit that we have we can not have BF2, CZ, NFS2, ??? running all the time. Having to beg to have CZ up and running is not conducive to good gaming[/b]
CZ server *was* up and running all the time.

2. Friday Night Compettitions

- Why should we wait until Sunday morning to finish off the compettitions? Why not start Friday evening or have a Friday only comp?
- Most people arrive then anyway and those that don't should know better :)
We finished our competition on Saturday - you drank more than you remember.

3. Preconfigured Kit

- Can we please ensure that the switches etc are ready to rock before we get there?
- Can the Admins send out IP details to the individuals so that we can set it before we leave?
- Power / Extention (non RJ45) cords - Is there any value in having the community purchase some longer extension cords that could be run under the tables for the attendees to plug in their own power supply? Might keep the "spagettii incidents" down to a minimum
Switches: Already posted as something under consideration - we had 2 switch failures on the day and that kind of bolloxed us.  It's not a normal occurrence so shouldn't happen again.

IPs - it would take longer to prep the IPs thn it would for you to type it in.  Suffer a bit - it's good for you ;p

Power sockets - it is a LAN requirement to bring these aloing so there shouldn't be any problem.  There are 6 x 134A sockets for a table with 6 people on it.  Everything should be just fine.

I personally think it's just fine the way it is and think things would definately be worse off if they went more 'regimented', people want different things from the LAN and being able to do/play just what you want is ideal.  Would like to have more of the fixed A v's B type games though, didn't we just have 1 game on the saturday?

LOL...

But seriously - as the infamous control freak I like your suggestions...

I especially like the idea of a games list. Although I am a BF2 nut there are a few games coming out now that would be great at the next LAN..

Call of Duty 2 - Age of Empires III - Quake 4

And maybe a nice racing game that's easy to get into (and doesn't require a wheel and peddles)....Something that we can crash into each other a lot! LOL

Anyone remember 'Carmaggedon'???
