I want this next LAN to be one of the best yet. As I've been attending for quite some time now I wanted to make a few suggestions:

1. Approved Games List should = Approved Games Servers running 24/7

- I do not believe with the kit that we have we can not have BF2, CZ, NFS2, ??? running all the time. Having to beg to have CZ up and running is not conducive to good gaming

- Can we also allow Global Unlocks in BF2? Some of us work hard to get these unlocks and we should be able to enjoy them

2. Friday Night Compettitions

- Why should we wait until Sunday morning to finish off the compettitions? Why not start Friday evening or have a Friday only comp?
- Most people arrive then anyway and those that don't should know better  :)

3. Preconfigured Kit

- Can we please ensure that the switches etc are ready to rock before we get there?
- Can the Admins send out IP details to the individuals so that we can set it before we leave?
- Power / Extention (non RJ45) cords - Is there any value in having the community purchase some longer extension cords that could be run under the tables for the attendees to plug in their own power supply? Might keep the "spagettii incidents" down to a minimum

4. Timetable of events:

- Is it possible to set a timetable of events / comps beforehand so that people could sign up in advance to various compettitions / drinking events (Note: dMw does not promote excessive drinking)
- These could be posted on the dMw website before the LAN so the Admins / Organisers have an idea of scheduling / timing

Anyone else?? Please continue numbering if possible / practical.

Also this is not a complaint but just an attempt to make things a bit more organized!!

It's amazing that all of the people that have viewed this post and the above is the most intelligent comment that you lot can muster..

please close and delete this thread. It's obvious that you lot like things the way they are.. I prefer perfection not normalicy but hey.. that's just me.

DuVeL

Lo Ninja m8, you know I prefer a CZcompetition on the LAN aswell but I just didn't reply because I agree to all points accept the one Ron answerd on. I'm with him on that.
I did miss a CZcompetition and was up for it (would have kicked my Tbro from behind Dingo's rig and would have played myself).
BF2 was the new game and I and several others hadn't played it before so it was interesting.

I also didn't reply, as I agreed with most of it, and didn't really have anything further to add.

I think the main reason why the last LAN didn't have the structure you desire is because TeaLeaf was on his own in the hotseat.  To give him his credit, he had spent the majority of the previous week building BlackAdder3, and probably didn't have any time left to think about competitions, timetables, and the like.  It was a good effort on his part just ensuring we all had a working server to game on.

It may also have been heavily BF2 orientated, but as DuVeL's already said, it seems to be the game of the moment and had a lot of interest.  And, to be fair, I didn't hear anyone else in that room speaking up to try and get a CS (or any other game) tourny off the ground.

My only thought is: Next time round, if more organisation is what we as a community want, maybe we should coordinate more - rather than leaving everything to the same select few.

Ive been to 4/5 lans and tbh iam happy the way it is .iI dont go for the gaming I go to meet/drink with you ladies  :D
Oh and to sleep with Benny of course

Of course, that one post summarises the main impression I had of the last (my first) LAN.  Bunch of lads in a room, who only really see each other twice a year, getting leathered, and talking sh1te to each other.  Gaming comes second.

Third is either knowingly, or unknowingly, sleeping with Benny.  ;)

Dr Sadako

I think you have a valid set of points Ninja. Friday night for competitions is a splendid idea. Gives you almost two full days of taunting the loosers  :P

Penfold

I agree with *some* of Ninja's points but I think the 'pre-configured' kit comment is a bit off the mark.

As Cadaver has said, firstly we had no Oldie (the upshot of which was that we also didn't have Frenzy handing our butts to on plates every few secs  :P ), secondly a switch or two went tits up which was no-one's fault and 3rdly having actually been in time to watch the  setup - it's no mean feat and all looks very complicated.

Perhaps Cadaver is right - we need a few more willing helpers (although the limits of my technical ability involved holding a bin bag and clearing up with Jamoe - The Benny/Jas/Smite corner was humming  :P ).

We know BlackAdder can cope with a multitude of games and still have enough processing power to run a small nuclear bunker and I think it was a shame those people who couldn't play BF didn't really get a look in.

Perhaps TL and Oldie should delegate those tasks that others can do to enable them to concentrate on the tasks that only they can do.

I'll stick my hand up here and say if there's anything I can do to help faciliate the next LAN then give me a shout.

My only observation, apart from those already offered, is that no matter how much info is sent to people beforehand many will still turn up not ready and unsure of what is going on. Prearranged times for contests? Things will happen to change it - do you really want to stop an outstanding game of whatever to ensure that the tiddlywinks contest starts on time? Pre-issued IPs? ROFL, how many will forget/won't know or just plain struggle with the idea?

I didn't post before because I am unable to attend the LANs hence felt it wasn't really my place to say what should/shouldn't happen but since you riased the point again I felt OK to respond.

BTW if I was TL I would be a bit miffed at the way some of your points come across Ninja.

I have decided not to reply to your post. I doubt it would do much good anyway as you seem undecided as to whether you want people to comment or not - you can't have it both ways.

Carry on discussion I'm out of here.

Ooo Ooo handbags at dawn ladies?

More organised comps would be a laugh. Nothing to serious, maybe a 2v2 CZ knives only fragfest?

Had a few times at the LAN were I was wondering what to do and kicking of an UT2k4 server for amusement.
I do exactly what the little voices tell me to.

PC Specs:- Black box with some fans that go whirrr, a few lights, things inside that get warm, headphones, keyboard (a clicky one), mouse (with buttons and no squeak), disks (2-off SSD and HDD) and a monitor of sufficient proportions.

Here's a heads-up ...

The single most difficult thing to organise at the LANs is the formal competition/s.

Working out the format and the teams is time consuming enough but getting the collective bums of the assembled participants seated all at the same time is a bloody nightmare. People kindly offer to go get the stragglers out of the bar and then, having rounded-up said lost sheep, decide that so long as they're there they may as well get a pint in ... so more volunteers go in search of them ... others need the bog ... etc etc.

Sorry Ninja, but it has to be done on the fly. If anyone wants to help then sit down when asked, go to the correct server at the correct time and join the correct team. Sounds simple dunnit?
