I loved all 3 of the books! I actually think the Mulefa would look pretty cool :narnar:
Sound like pretty amazing creatures to me....

For me these were some of the best books I have read up until now. and I read a lot


He is talking about Philip Pullman's Trilogy "dark material", just in case somebody doesn't know.  The first book "The Golden Compass" has just been turned into a Hollywood flick.  I didn't bother watching the film since they still don't have the go-ahead to make the 2nd and 3rd part. (this news may be outdated, been a while since I checked.)

I gave the books to my mom to read....she read the 3rd book first :doh: :roflmao:


Benny, do you know of any other books similar to these?  It'd be a while before I get/read them, but would still be good to know what other authors to look for.
I went onto amazon 3 weeks ago to order 1 book, I ended up ordering 11 :g:

Read them with good reviews from work mates. (No longer mates if they give this bad advice )
 
I only finished the series hoping for something interesting to happen. It didn't.........apart from making me fall asleep.

I totally agree, I read them 5 or 7 years ago now, first was fantastic, second was pretty goo then amber spyglass was utter rubbish.

The only reason I finished it was to find out what happened, if it had been a standalone book I wouldnt have made it much past halfway...

*SPOILER*Thank god (note the insulting lower case reference, and for those who are of the religious persuasion, I do it in light of the subject of the 3 books) I'm not alone in my thoughts that the final book was toss.

I'll add factors that convieniently only one window can remain open, they can only survive in their own world and the pikeys can sail between worlds, presumably on a boat that transcends parallel universes.


To answer the next question, I'm going to try Stroud's trilogy, Amulet of something or other, supposedly a grown up Potter and (embarrasingly) that was quite readable. Thoughts?

Potter have read and although may be embarassing absolutely loved them all especially the last.
 
I have the Bourne set on the bookcase waiting to be read. Made the mistake of Starting the WOT series again so thats the next few months taken.
(Note: Always have a book ready before you finish the last otherwise you reread and get stuck in a set)

I read these books when I worked in a bookshop many years ago! :norty:  To be honest I wasn't riveted to the page like I have been with other books.

I'm an avid fantasy reader, at one time I read 150 books in a year!  What a waste lol

I've read some good stuff recently by Fiona McDonald, I've read 'ORCS' which was ok too.

I'm missing the magical element from reading at the moment though - any ideas what to read?  You know the kind of thing...you know who the hero is and you kinda know whats gonna happen but nevertheless you STILL get the heart racing and the reading speeds up so you can soak it all up!

Anyway I digress sorry!

I remember the first being called Northern Lights. I read the first and second and then got bored with the third when they were in a cave or something with a procession of people. Did it get any better?

I read ORCS too, thought it was OK. I actually quite enjoyed it.

I ordered the Black Magician Trilogy by Trudi Canavan in January.
I have not yet read them so cannot tell you if they are any good or not.
