This thread is to provide you with a packing list so that you remember to bring everything you should bring to the LAN along with a guide as to how to ensure your steam is up to date and that you have the relevant patches / map packs etc.

IMPORTANT:
Do this ON THURSDAY NIGHT ABOUT 10.00 PM. IF YOU DO THIS FRIDAY MORNING YOU MIGHT PICK UP A STEAM UPDATE THAT NONE OF THE REST OF US OR THE LAN SERVER WILL HAVE. THEN YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CONNECT TO THE LAN GAME!!!!

Thursday 10.00pm
1. Connect to the Internet
2. Start Steam

3. **CRUCIAL** If you DO have the 'do not save account details on this computer' checked then enter your password and UNCHECK THE BOX. If you don't you'll loose your password details from the login screen and will not be able to play CS at the LAN **CRUCIAL**

4. Log onto Steam
5. Click 'Exit' on the Steam menu and quit Steam
6. Disconnect from the Internet
7. Start Steam and when the dialog box appears click 'offline mode'
8. Make sure Steam starts and you can fire up CS
9. Exit Steam again
10. Try restarting Steam again.
11. Run a complete Anti-virus scan.
12. Go to bed
13. Wake up
14. Go to the LAN

In a nutshell just make sure you can connect to Steam without being asked for your password. If you are asked to type in your password you're not going to be able to play at the LAN

BattleField2
The same rules apply to BF2. If a patch arrives on Thursday night then download it and install it. We hope to have an internet connection at the LAN but you never know when it might fail, so be patched up to Thursday night when you arrive at the LAN.

TF2
This can  be purchased via Steam. Same instructions as above.

Soldat
Is a free game and will be available for download at the LAN.

Other supported games:
LFS
CoD4 (via BIG server)

PLEASE KEEP THE THREAD ON TOPIC AND TO A MINIMUM SO IT DOESN'T GET TOO CLUTTERED AND PEOPLE MISS VITAL INFO.

Me and Delan will disconnect our PCs earlier than that. Now we just hope there will be no steam update in that 3 hour gap. :eyebrow:

Btw could someone bring some extra power cables for us to use? I would like to avoid using adapters.

I plan on bringing one adapter and an extension box with 5-6 plug holes. We can share that?

Do like this.

copy your entire Steam folder to your new hard drive. Then use the normal steam installer and install into the same folder. Then you just need to log in and maybe download the last few updates. All configs and maps will be there and nothing will be overwritten. It worked straight away for me anyway.

I've never bothered with the installer. I just copy the folder, delete the client.blob and run steam. I've done this on four PC's now with no problems at all. Works great. Why can't all PC software be this simple!

Cake: Four large eggs. One cup semi-sweet chocolate chips. Three/four cups butter or margarine. One and two third cups granulated sugar. Two cups all purpose flour. Fish shaped ethyl benzene. Twelve medium geosynthetic membranes. Three tablespoons rhubarb, on fire.

I've done the same on two PCs now.

Updated Offline Mode Instructions:

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3160-AGCB-2555

Please follow the instructions below to configure Offline Mode on your machine:

  • Start Steam online - make sure the Remember my password box on the login window is checked
  • Verify that all game files are completely updated - you can see the update status for a game under the My Games tab (when the game shows as 100% - Ready it is ready to be played in Offline Mode)
  • Launch the game you would like to play offline to verify that there are no further updates to download - shut down the game and return to Steam once you have confirmed that the game can be played
  • Go to Settings to ensure the Do not store account information on this computer option is not selected
  • From the main Steam window, go to File and select Go Offline
  • Click OK to restart Steam in Offline Mode
I would also restart the PC with no internet to ensure its worked correctly.
