How is it possible for Glock to loose that much time on a single lap...? I think the commentators said he lost 8 seconds on the last lap. I know his tires were bad and all, but still.. smells fishy if you ask me. :eyebrow:

Anyway, good job Hamilton!

How could we let this season finish without another conspiracy theory, eh? :flirty:

Do you know what? I listened to the news this morning half expecting to hear that Massa had been awarded the WDC after [insert fabricated penalty here].

Glock had slick tyres on a wet track - you can lose a LOT of time like that. I think 8 seconds is nothing to lose on one lap.

I didn't watch the race, so I'm on thin ice here.. but did he also loose that much in the laps leading up to the final lap? And did the track conditions change during the last lap? If the answer to both these questions is no, I think it's fishy..

he's team gambled on staying out on the "slicks" But as the rain intensified on the final lap, the ploy backfired and Glock had to cut his pace dramatically to stay on the circuit

“I was on dry tyres at the end of the race when it was raining quite badly and it was just impossible on the last lap,” explained Glock.

Just goes to show how lucky Hammy got on that last lap, you can thank the heavier rain, well you could call it karma :g:,

Glocks sector times were matching everyone elses until the very last lap!

We were all badly hindered by the abysmal commentary (no change there then). They were so obsessed with how Hamilton was not able to retake Vittel (more on that in a bit) that they completely ignored the fact that Glock was being reigned in hard. Plus it was raining properly in the pits and so likewise in both the start finish straight and the corners before. I was once told that racing F1 on slicks in the wet was akin to driving on ice. You don't just slow down you can practically come to a stand still.

On lap 69 Glock was 6 seconds faster on slicks that Hamilton on intermediates
On lap 70 Hamilton was now 2.5 seconds faster than Glok as the rain started properly
On lap 71 Hamilton was 18.5 seconds faster than Glock. He was 3 seconds faster through sector 1, 9.5 second faster through section 2 and 6 z seconds faster through section 3. This was the bit that the moron commentator failed to mention. Seems he can only concentrate on one thing at a time. As soon as Glock passed the pit lane on lap 67 and certainly on 68 it wasn't about Vettel anymore it was about could Hamilton catch Glock. Maybe Hamilton even let Vettel past on purpose? He did seem to move over a quite a bit when Vettel came by. It's not easy for us watching TV to see what the overall state of the race is. That's what the commentator is for. Without a proper commentator we didn't really know that clearly what was going on. It's only now after the event we can see the bigger picture and wonder if McLaren were never interested in Vettel and only concerned with Glock and his slick tyres. Roll on 2009 and real F1 on TV

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

I think Gnomie has a smelly fish fetish. :norty:

And yes Smilo, in the tv comments from the the McLaren team boss post race he said that they made the call to not risk it (ie let Vetel through) as they had calculated that they would overhaul Glock in the last lap.  Personally that's one hell of a call and it only just came off, I would rather have fought for retaining 5th, but then I am not paid big dosh to run an F1 team so what would I know!
