I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

If I'd have realised what D&D meant I wouldn't have clicked on that link.

I object to D&D being referred to as a roleplaying game, i've never seen anyone actualy *do* any roleplaying in it, they just fight bigger and better monsters and get bigger and better loot, which can be done in a far more fun fashion through a computer game like NeverWinter Nights where you never even have to see the dice rolls. Or maybe that's more indicative of the kind of person I know who plays D&D.

There are hundreds of other systems out there that are far easier to use, so you actually spend time roleplaying as your characters and interacting, instead of just hitting stuff. Cyberpunk ftw.

My longest running character was/is Madsen (I was playing Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising at the time), a melee solo with a bit of an obsession for his monokatana. Completely overpowered for dropping out the shadows and slicing people in half, then disappearing again, but as soon as someone spots him he gets mown into the ground by gunfire and spends 3 weeks in hospital being put back together after the rest of the team have come to rescue him.

Once stabbed a fellow solo through the throat for insinuating things about his sexuality, after he walked into a bar and ordered what was basically a fruit salad with some alcohol in it.

GM also decided to play with my head a bit, so Madsen had an embedded personality that he didn't know about. He kept getting more and more tired because while 'he' was asleep his body was going out helping little old ladies across the road and getting a bit... overzealous... with minor lawbreakers...

I think he's currently trying to hunt down an ex-teammember, who (as far as Madsen knows, wrongly in fact) ripped the team off to the tune of 8 million dollars and then tried to have the rest of us killed. There are plans to run a campaign set much later in time with Madsen as a Sam Fisher-esq grizzled "I'm too old for this" type surrounded by new guys with better gear and cyberware, but refusing to get his own stuff upgraded.

Other fantastic campaigns have included the really low level one where the players spent most of the time doing small jobs knocking over supermarkets and the like while attempting to stay a step or two ahead of the police, so that they had enough cash to be able to pay to go to school, because none of them could read or do maths (Once again, the GM punishing them a bit for min-maxing and putting no points into Education & General Knowledge), so on the last job they'd been paid about 5% of what they were told they'd been paid, and noone realised :roflmao:.

I'd better stop there, I could go on for hours.

We used to play RuneQuest which we preferred as the dice rolls we on percentages.

Anyone play that?

Spend many a good evening stoned on the Plains of Prax.

Yeah, 'punk is a percentile system too. And we use the addition from the 'Listen Up You Primitive Screwheads' Gm's guide, which converts all the damage from weapons and stuff from D6 to percentile too, so you only need 1D10 (or, ideally, 2) to play the entire game.
