I read some reviews before watching this film and it appeared that people who had seen the film either loved or loathed it.

To be frank I was always going to watch this film. After all it's got crop circles and aliens in it  :D

So did I enjoy it? Yep. Sure did.

Yeah there's lots of dodgy science in it and the casting (Mel Gibson excepted) is off but in the end it's a clever film that has got some excellent humour and some truly scary moments (I'm easily spooked tho).

I read somewhere that it makes better watching on a TV than a cinema trip and I'd go along with that.

I can confirm the loved it or loathed it reference....for as Oldie loved it, so I loathed it.

Mr. Shyamalan's career seems to be following a downward spiral, in as much as it started with a truimph (The Sixth Sense) went down to reasonable (Unbreakable) and then went down the toilet (Signs).

Still it's all just personal opinion   :)

I found it was independence day from the point of view of some country hick.  Fun to see.

Signs ... gah ... you should have seen the signs. I was really disappointed after watching this movie. What a POS.

I know that logic shouldn't be mixed with SF but here it is unavoidable.

1. There are aliens that can jump 6-8 meters up in the air with ease and not being able to knock down a crap cellar door.

2. Aliens don't react well to water. Hmm how do you get by the humidity of air? Most of the time it is 50% and more ...

Sigh .... "thank you for pressing the self destruct button"  :frusty:

1) That crap cellar door was damp

2) The air humidity was probably more of an irritant IE caused a nasty rash

There u go anything else prof duldrum?  :P

First half hour was promising - then went rapidly downhill from there.

I don't know where Shyamalan was going with this one.  Either he wanted to make an alien invasion movie, or he wanted to make a movie about what happens when a religious man loses his faith.   In mixing them up he missed the mark on both counts.

Pants...

And the science was crap as well.  How come a technologically advanced alien species, who can design craft capable of interstellar travel, forget to wear protective suits when entering a potentially fatal environment?  Us humans have had raincoats for years :D

Hmmmmm so as an alien for whome water is fatal why not invade a planet that's 70% water, that has water in every home, fire hydrants on every street corner, swimming pools in half the homes in the US and then attack people who are 70% MADE of water!

Plus we already kicked the crap out of real bad-ass aliens on July 4th a few years back, so these news ones should have known that we were indeed not a species with whome one should  Fu.....err TANGO  :)

Seriously while I agree the first half of the film was gripping, it really needed a killer ending but just fizzled out. His wifes dieing words inspiring him to get his brother to beat crap out of the alien with a baseball bat. "Keep Swinging" was it?  His son being asmatic so closed lungs save him from alien gas or something, his daugher having an insane water fixation............ please.

I've seen a few contrived plots in my time but this was a belter.

The bit where they see the film of the alien at the childs party was riveting, and I would imagine that events would unfold in real life much like they did in the film.

Although the crop circle references were crap, as everyone knows it's my brothers best friend who does most of them.....err I've said too much I fear.
