New monitor - advice needed!

Afternoon all,

I'm looking to upgrade my faithful old 19" Viewsonic screen, and enter the glorious age of widescreen.

I've been looking at two 22" screens, both of which are capable of doing 1920x1080 and seem to have good gaming credentials. Has anyone had any experience of them? Any suggestions would be most welcome (my budget is about Â£200, so 48" Apple Cinema Displays are probably out of reach)

I can't say anything about those but if your budget is about 200, you should take look at this BenQ 24"
it is sold here at about 200e so way under 200Â£. I have had it for a while now and it is awesome, price/product quality is very good

As I don't know many UK webshops that is an Amazon link, so you might find it somewhere else with a better price tag even.

I'm loving my Samsung T220 and it's well under Â£200 now.

Maybe T240?

At one point the hanns g 28" was around Â£240.

Both Greekchef and Snooks had them at the lan from what i was told.

They are huge and a bargain if you can still get them for Â£200-Â£250

I'm very impressed with my 22" widescreen Dell monitor. It's a 1680x1050 one.
It was about Â£220 about 8 months ago. Has 3 inputs (d-sub, dvi, HDMI) and built in webcam, mic and usb hub.
It's a glossy finish screen and the picture quality and colours are top-notch.

They built so much into one screen, and did it very well.

I bought a 22" display for the native 1680 resolution (I run all my games a this res, so going too big can limit performance on some of the fps game I typically play). How ever if you're looking for the full HD res monitor a 24" would be my first choice.

Forgot to mention.

For my next screen i am looking for a non glossy.

Mainly due to the fact that glossys are fine for artifical light from my living room light but are prone to reflections from daylight as were crt's

I'd recommend a matt finish and try and go for a popular resolution.

Such as 1680x1050.

The screen needs a low ms rate and the highest resolution as its native resolution ore your preferred resolution as its native resolution you decide.

If you buy a 1920 monitor and then play games at 1680 it won't look as good even though you have more pixels.
So if you mostly play games your games run slow or aren't supported at 1920 the 1680 might be a better choice. If they run at the high res it will look better though.

1920x1080 will probably be my resolution of choice, since it's a standard HD resolution.

Hence the interest in the Dell
