Lan XV - Packing List & Instructions Thread
This thread is to provide you with a packing list so that you remember to bring everything you should bring to the LAN along with a guide as to how to ensure your steam is up to date and that you have the relevant patches / map packs etc.

IMPORTANT:
Do this ON THURSDAY NIGHT ABOUT 10.00 PM. IF YOU DO THIS FRIDAY MORNING YOU MIGHT PICK UP A STEAM UPDATE THAT NONE OF THE REST OF US OR THE LAN SERVER WILL HAVE. THEN YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CONNECT TO THE LAN GAME!!!!

Thursday 10.00pm
1. Connect to the Internet
2. Start Steam

3. **CRUCIAL** If you DO have the 'do not save account details on this computer' checked then enter your password and UNCHECK THE BOX. If you don't you'll loose your password details from the login screen and will not be able to play CS at the LAN **CRUCIAL**

4. Log onto Steam
5. Click 'Exit' on the Steam menu and quit Steam
6. Disconnect from the Internet
7. Start Steam and when the dialog box appears click 'offline mode'
8. Make sure Steam starts and you can fire up CS
9. Exit Steam again
10. Try restarting Steam again.
11. Run a complete Anti-virus scan.
12. Go to bed
13. Wake up
14. Go to the LAN

In a nutshell just make sure you can connect to Steam without being asked for your password. If you are asked to type in your password you're not going to be able to play at the LAN

smilodon

Bring a BIG cushion. The chairs are not really designed to be sat on for 16 hours a day.

I learnt this one from my wise Guru Mr Doorman at my first LAN.
smilodon
Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

Tutonic

I have a large stockpile of spares (network/power cables, hard drives, sound cards etc) that I can call on in a pinch.

Let me know if anyone's desperate.

If you have the space and if you're happy to bring along a few bits in case someone has a problem / forgets something that would be great. :D

As a note, LFD DLC should be out tomorrow so that will be a major update.

I am not sure whether OB and Whitey will want to use the new dlc or not but hopefully any issues valve discover will be semi sorted by the lan :D

Looking forward to this one :)

Just an idea for next time. Someone could bring a 3G modem dongle if they have one, that way if someones computer doesn't load in offline mode for some reason it people can access Steam anyway.
Ok, good luck with your LAN, hopefully I'll make on someday.

The hotel does have adsl.

However if this dies we won't see steam online hence why we ask people to switch off thursday night.

hi all, can i borrow a cabled keyboard from someone as i only have a wireless keyboard.

Cheers in advance :)

I write down everything I want to remember. That way, instead of spending a lot of time trying to remember what it is I wrote down, I spend the time looking for the paper I wrote it down on.

Sheepy appears and begins to stroke my head. According to his slurred drunken speech I am "lovely and like a fuzzy felt". Thankfully he soon leaves and passes out somewhere. [/quote]
