Folks,

I was really disappointed to see Tea Leaf's thread on what happened last Sunday. As admins for the game, we should all be ashamed that poor conduct was being tollerated.

To that end, I'd like everyone to put up some time where they will be available to be on our server to admin it and also to get games going. We need to have Admin coverage during peak times in the evening and the weekends.

I don't think it's unreasonable for GhostMjr to expect our time on a regular basis. I do think that this should be somewhat flexible but we should be able to manage it between ourselves. (eg: if you can't make your scheduled time due to RL commitments, it should be up to you to get another Admin to cover).

Please post at least two slots / days per week that you can commit to on a regular basis.

Weekdays - 6-9
Weekends - 4-6
Weekends - 6-9

PS! From UK time add +2 hrs to get my timezone, so you dont mistake my times that i posted (added my own timezone times not UK ones).

I'm sorry guys. My life isn't that organised. If I can be online I will be.

Much the same here. I'm generally free in the evenings but can guarantee anything. If something happens in the lab I can be there weekends or past midnight - so obviously not online.
As well as that social commitments that vary week to week. If I'm on steam I'm generally free to play/admin if you don't have me on steam friends already feel free to add me (mortensent) that's the easiest way to get hold of me.

In my opinion that's not good enough..

Why did you sign up to be admins exactly? Was it for the badge?

You can't even commit to two hours a week?

Firstly, I didn't ask to be an admin, I was invited to be one by ghostmjr the lead admin of this game who I think is in charge of what is acceptable or not.

If we're talking about opinions, it's mine that you're over stepping your mark.

I don't recall you being promoted to a level you deem what is an acceptable level of time for a member to spend on a game, especially not admins, although if this is the case I sincerely apologise.

Again we are sharing opinions.. I see you as a colleague, not someone under me. I judge you by the same standards I set for myself. That requires some level of committment. My "level" and / or "promotion" is irrelevent in my opinion.

I'm a bit confused over the last statement you made.. "especially not admins".. As a group, all of the BC2 admins are being criticised for not being on the server and doing what we signed up to do. Whether you realised it or not, when you accepted the offer you accepted a certain level of responsibility and expectations have been put on you.

If that isn't what you signed up for then perhaps you should have a chat with GhostMjr and discuss.

IMHO we are as a group being unreasonably criticised. The server admin tools are no where near where they need to be nor where our leaders expect them to be. I for one do not value unsubstantiated criticism. Who, when, where, what. Without that its just sniping and I think you know what I think of snipers!

If its not good enough then I'm sorry. I too was invited. I did not get a contract. I think I have some value to add, but if its not enough then ciao on this gig. No hard feelings.

Which bits are you missing Paddy?  AFAIAA I can send a server message, kick, ban with even the most basic tool, so which admin function is missing please?

I think some of the negative comments come from the fact that people have seen multiple abuses (that's predictable as it is a public server) and the perception is that very little has been be done about it.  I have experienced this myself and already posted as such.  People need to see that the server is admin'd properly as it reassures them that the idiots are not tolerated and that this is a safe place to come and enjoy their BC2.

We're all working for the same aim here which is to make the playing environment better for all.  For that to happen we need to be seen to admin the server.  It's not as you say 'a contract'. nobody gets paid for it, but it helps the community and ultimately it helps us as players as we get a more rewarding, challenging & social environment within which to play the game.    So from my point of view I'd not take the criticism personally, I'd just look at it as the members (and public) saying how we can make our community server better and we should be participating in that common goal, even if we're only using the admin tools we have at the moment.

Missing tools.

Auto-warn/kick for bad language
Working team balance
Admin messages not in your face
Kick for teamkills

That's just a quick response. I'm sure I could think of more.

My approach is that as a team we need to be clear and decisive on the server.

In my opinion rota's won't work instead when an admin is on and i am currently working on expanding our team we must all be ready to admin the server when problems occur hence my issuing of the Admin Ground Rules setting the standard to which we all should follow.

We have a community and a facility to do this both using both members to tell us what's going wrong or our own visuals and essentially these tools show us how we "can" and "should" manage the server.

Last night was the best night we have had so far, we all enjoyed ourselves and we had a strong admin base to make sure when problems occurred they were dealt with.

We each made sure that publics enjoyed the night and many did.

All we need to do is make a fresh start enjoy that  we are providing something to the community that they all enjoy and move on from there.

The chain of command is essentially me the game leader to you the Game admins and i am here to lead the section and set the tone for what needs to be done.

I am here to help you and you are here to help me.

This symbiotic relationship helps us achieve the best we can with both positive and negative comments we can provide a process of implementation and review which helps on building on our foundations which we are all setting.

I appreciate all your help and lets move forward together to the next hurdle :)

That's a good post Ghosty, but I am not sure that I am ready for a symbiotic relationship with you. Were you thinking of living on me, ectosymbiosis, or in me, endosymbiosis? I feel dirty and need a shower now.

If it's endosymbiosis the shower won't help. I think what he actually wanted to say was "we should work together, but not in a way that could be misconstrued for something joke worthy".
