It wasn't last week. Was barely an improvement on the standard def.

My parents have had Sky HD since launch and I was down last week and watched the Grand Prix on BBC HD. Originally every program on Sky One was also shown at the same time on Sky One HD. Unfortunately only about 4 shows had been recorded in HD so the rest were SD broadcasts that had been upscaled to the HD resolution. The program info still said HD, the channel was HD but the content wasn't. It was easy to tell the SD apart from the HD.
BBC One HD was the same last weekend. There was barely a difference in quality between the two. Whereas Wimbledon (on BBC HD - the least used of all the HD channels, 90% of the time it would just be showing looping trailers) was stunning in HD it made even the most mediocre of tennis matches look stunning. You could actually make out the ball, crowd etc etc rather than them appearing as a haze.

Anyway, I'm not saying that I won't be watching the grand prix on BBC One HD, I will. I've not really watched any programs on freeview HD (which is what I have here in Swansea). But don't be disappointed when the picture quality isn't a huge improvement over the standard picture, it's the BBCs fault not a technology fault. Hopefully they'll quickly fix it, but last weeks was a massive disappointment.

The upscaled F1 from last week on the HD channel was an improvement, but not much.  But damn, if they show 'true' (768p) HD TV then it will be a serious improvement.  The detail you can get on a decent HD TV with HD TC source is stunning.  Just wait until they pump out 1080p TV.
