I have an iphone with o2 and sometimes I can use bt openzone.

Having a btopenzone account would give me alot more flexibility which seems a bit expensive however there seems to be another method BT are offerng known as BT fon.

The idea is to share your internet via a special router fonera+ or bt fon to others who can log in.

This means that you can essentially share yours and use others free of charge.

Has anyone used this yet?

If so what was your experience and how much would it cost to run the router per year (electricity wise)?

Sounds like a good way to get yourself a rude letter thanks to someone elses file sharing...

Nahh, it's separate to your own connection so Peter File can do all the downloading he likes and you won't be liable. I have the fonera box personally and have that hooked on my connection to share out. So far, due to my location on the outskirts of town, no one has connected to it! And the benefit to me, being able to get free wifi internet in most towns far outweighs the small cost for the unit :D

Thanks for your comments Gandy :).

Which box did you go for in the end?

The standard one from bt?

I reckon the amount to power it per year is pretty low.

Do you get free access to btopenzone too or just bt fonera spots?

Tempted by fonera 2.0n

QuoteAs the name suggests,  the Fonera 2.0n features the speed of 802.11n, but we've also packed it  with social networking integration, wireless storage (NAS), up- and  downloading, and webcam hosting. There's also a USB 2.0 port for hooking  up an external storage device so you can set the Fonera 2.0n to  automatically upload photos to Facebook, Flickr or Picasa, as well as  schedule it to download multiple files, MegaUpload files, RapidShare  files and even torrents! There's even an automatic YouTube uploader!

Nope nothing to do with BT! I'm not completely mad ;) anyway, the router I have is the basic one from the fon.com website. Was shipped from Spain. Nice n cheap and free wifi wherever. Can only connect to APs with fon in their names though.
