Interesting to see and something to keep an eye on if you're either looking to switch or are already with Sky.  They've provided a postcode checker to see if your local exchange is having problems:

Seems that launching Sky Go *and* doing a major advertising campaign for new broadband customers at the same time has slightly backfired.

I still think virgin are the best ISP as you get as close to what you pay for in regards to Meg etc.

Virgin have a lot of complaints on this forum, just ask GhostMjr or some of the others who have posted.  They've had a lot of issues, including one where they treated WoW traffic as 'peer to peer' and de-prioritised it in their firewall, resulting in months of massively variable ping times for those players.     No other ISP had that issue, they all updated their firewall rules to match the Blizzard traffic within hours/days, but Virgin continued to claim 'no problem exists' and did nothing.

I think most ISPs give you what you pay for in terms of Meg, but we don't have to like them.   I hate BT, but they still give me the full 110Mbps that I am paying for.

Yeah, missriggy is with virgin and she's had loads of problems with them.

I found bt were useless both customer service and broadband.

With sky now and only had the odd hiccup with them

Ahh, Virgin.

I was with them for about 10 years, during which time I had an excellent connection. Very fast, generally quite reliable. They did, however, have the worst service ever. On the few occasions my line did go down, getting it fixed was a nightmare - for this reason I could never recommend them to anyone.

I'm with Plusnet now, who are awesome. Cheap, reliable, helpful.

Yup the Virgin Media service is great when it's up and running but when there is a problem it's awful.  They are doing a lot of upgrade work in Portsmouth at the moment which results in service interruption fairly frequently and this is scheduled to last until the middle of next month at least!!!

ok, so is sky broadband any good for gaming?

The only reason i ask is, i love sky tv! i dont care what anyone says, its the best, i actually love paying £47 a month for the service and package i receive.

The thing is i also pay £44 a month for my BT internet and phone and im very happy with their service.

Im in a catch22 position, do i get BT vision to replace sky tv as a package or do i replace my BT internet with sky broadband as a package? ultimately to save money

I would prefer to stay with sky, but is it fast enough to not cause me problems with lag? etc....

BrotherTobious

DO NOT GET BT VISION it is crap flat out shite, broken doesn't work the last is a actual quote from a BT support engineer. Sky is ok but not sure what it is like for gaming
