I've been playing the single player thing before I jump on the server but the biggest issue I seem to have is with food.

I'm trying to plant wheat near a water source but I can't seem to get the right configuration and the wheat grows very slowly.

Also I read somewhere it's better to breed pigs/cows/chickens and eat them. I've only found chickens which I've mostly killed before realising I could breed them.

Any advice before I jump on the server and starve to death.

There is lots of food to be used mate you just have to replant light I v important. Check out Minecraftwiki

This is why it's better to jump on the server - you get the info you need quicker.

Get on the server mate where there's a bunch of willing helpers at your disposal. Oh and it's carrots you want :D
