Albert has nailed it. RSI can sell what they want and we're all free to buy what we want and fund the game to the level we want. I've spent about $100 and I'm not adding any more to that figure this side of launch. Others have spent much more which is their prerogative. I'd rather acquire things by working for them in game rather than sailing out with a small personal armada of cash bought ships. Such is the freedom we all have to fund, buy and play the game exactly how we wish. What I think is nonsense is the paragraph of frankly b*llsh*t text that accompanied the sale of the PAX Trophy. It insults my intelligence when a company that is earning millions of dollars a month asks for some cash to fund their trip to Oz. Just sell the trophy as a commemorative of the trip to OZ. It was an  ill advised and stupid sales pitch. Back in the "Kickstarter" days it would float but not in the "More than  half way to a hundred million dollars of funding and no signs of slowing down" days.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

I hope they do the Amsterdam Game show, I'll enjoy everyone buying me a beer 😚

Seriously Smilo, I'm just sarcastic old grumpus placing my view between the practical pledgers and the seriously committed brainwashed, a group I am gradually becoming part of. It's fun to discuss the dynamics of the social experience and the game will be very high quality. I only have one concern now, how will this game stand up to the test of time visually considering they will take over a year more to get the PU out? Games will have moved on and they must keep realigning their quality levels with the player expectations the longer they take to Dev the game. With the funding they have they could turn this thing around in 6 more months. Elite have made a high quality product in a very short time and it is balanced against CPU and GPU power with the visual quality coming from innovation in their engine and amazing illustration. SC could release mid 2015 in PU mode if they decided to not exploit the crown funding wave which I can understand their persistence on that level.

Not sure I agree with that.  Maybe I missed something and have misunderstood?

Backers pretty much demanded an event, there was massive pressure for it within the community (just check the forums).  Should the developers spend the money that was given for game development on more jollies?  Would the rest of the community be happy with their ship or the game being further delayed to allow an event in e.g. Cancun?  Surely RSI has the right to offer something that says "if you choose to spend this $5 then it goes towards paying the cost of hosting the PAX Aus event"?

RSI and we as backers have a tightrope to walk together.  We've put in vast sums of money, precisely because we share the vision. But, most backers want considerable amounts feedback on the progress of the development and input into the design process.  That kind of feedback costs a lot of money and we share that cost, subscribers more so then others.

Personally I don't get annoyed at them identifying a specific cost and giving me the chance to pay it.  I see it as worse for them to pay it from a fund that I thought was destined for my as yet unreleased Banu without telling me. The amount of money raised had no bearing on whether an offer to pay a specific cost is good or bad, but it might strike an emotional chord with some as there might be a perception of " they've had enough money, just get on with it and give me the game ".

The money raised is going to raise emotions at some point, but we need to remember that this is a path we travel together.  We started it together, we'll finish it together.  When we get to the ultimate destination nobody will be weighing your backpack to see how much any individual has carried on the journey, because all of us will be celebrating the fact that we got there.

I've chosen to back the game to the tune of more than $100, but I am still feeling I am getting great value from the game even though it has not yet launched!  I thoroughly enjoy the progress updates and seeing things like the FPS this morning, we wouldn't have that enjoyment without these events.
