My PC is over 10 years old and is struggling to ruin Discord and GTA-V at the same time.In fact just running GTA-V in single player mode results in graphical glitches.

And I've just activated my second pension and got a small tax free lump sum so thought I might treat myself to a new PC.

I've spotted this on OverClockers.

I am totally out of touch with PCs and their various options so thought I'd throw it open to the knowledgable few to see what the consensus was.
Would this last for the next 10 years?
I do exactly what the little voices tell me to.

PC Specs:- Black box with some fans that go whirrr, a few lights, things inside that get warm, headphones, keyboard (a clicky one), mouse (with buttons and no squeak), disks (2-off SSD and HDD) and a monitor of sufficient proportions.

Since receiving my Scan build I'm a fan of their offerings so I configured this Scan alternative

Both builds are top spec. The Scan one for OB has a slightly slower and smaller SSD, 250 vs 500 GB, with a (claimed) write speed of 1.5Gb/s vs 2.3. Of course, you could simply upgrade the Scan SSD to the 500GB version to essentially make them identical builds.

It all depends on what you want to spend. You could build a phenomenal PC for ~£500-700 less than these, that would likely still last for 5+ years. It won't have the absolute bleeding edge tech of today in, but the 'next best'. Up to you which option you prefer. More than happy to spec you a build if you are keen on saving some cash.

Other thing worth noting is the 1100 series GPUs from nVidia are expected soon, and it may be worth waiting for these to see how much the price drops on the 1000s.

Edit - I spec'd an example of a cheaper build out for you... you lose the i7 for an i5, and the 1080Ti for a 1070Ti. Very few games will see a big advantage with the 1080, unless you're playing in 4K, and there is no significant advantage with the i7 vs the i5. Yes the i7 and 1080Ti will last longer, but how much - who can say? How long is a piece of string :D I suspect either build would last you for a very long time indeed.

Thanks for the input guys.
That build from Scan does look good and saves me a goodly amount. Which is nice.
Ooo do I press the button now or prevaricate a bit more.

Remember if you are dumping your old PC, you can use the Windows install and knock off another £110 on Scan.

You could also pick up a Windows key elsewhere cheaper than the Scan £110 price.

Of course, you need to be happy enough to install the OS once the build arrives. Very simple, though.

Right I've made a decision. I will wait until 1100 series GPUs come out and then take the plunge.
I will be pestering you again when the time comes for a suggested build, if that is OK Chaos.

I'm confused. How does that make sense when you're considering an i5 over an i7 and a 1070 over a 1080?

Well you're going off of the assumption that the 1170 will outperform the 1070, at the same price point, which is how it usually works with these generational upgrades. Then the PC still costs you £1600, but you have a 1170 instead of a 1070. Or, if you stick with the 1070, nVidia drops the price on these by say £100 with the new release, and that ends up in your pocket :)

That and GPUs are predicted to come down in cost soon following their inflation due to mining, although this may just be unchecked optimism!
