Indeed and I bought £40 of ARC to reaffirm my support. Looks insane.

If you would like a pop at getting a name of your choosing in the new release:

Unsurprising I chose Albert. :yahoo:

Hey Albert you know the draw was on the 22nd according to the lead post?

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

So this Alpha (in the traditional sense) launched yesterday. I gave the first mission a go today and I must say, feels like the detail of Helion with the FPS of Quake.

I had to get the power back up on-planet at a base. It was far from hold E to restore power, which I sort of find with Star Citizen.

I eventually died of lack of O2, not before discovering 12+ components on the mission that I had to use, starting to make progress and even finding another human player who was doing the same mission, with me, or against, we both chose not to fight.

That person eventually caught the shuttle and left, I stuck it out to death.

If there are a number of varied and interesting missions like this, it will add a very important level of immersion and content to the game.

I'll give it another go, as I'm just getting the hang of the interface in FPS mode and wandering around in the dark on a planet surface with a flashlight is rather exciting.

So its something we could jump into as a group? I was interested in this last year. I've found it hard to get back into elite, mainly due to having to relearn all the controls! I dont really want to jump back in until its 'worth it'...
All our Gods have abandoned us.

I think so, as not everyone needs to fly. You can even hire a transport to the mission site. Then you actually sit in a passenger seat and are flown to the mission.

It's basically an fps, looks as good as you'd expect for Elite's style of graphics. The missions that are not battle focused (indeed even the battle focused missions) have some sort of problem solving going on. Gear can be levelled up, new kit bought, bio and geo items on planet scanned and colelcted to be sold.

Of course, knowing how to fly is useful, but you don't have to know more than just how to fight or perhaps drive the buggy. I've not tried a battle missions yet, opting more to play solo and try to recover the power and put out the fires on planet. Twice now I died, the items you need have to be searched for, but become easier to find once you activate terminals, then you get into buildings but could be attacked. Everything seems to have a place in the mission, also you have ot keep picking up energy cells and med-kits as fire really hurts, as in really, walk into it and you die, even through walls it can damage.

There are 8-10 NPCs around the station offering up missions, so no lack of things to try out even in a one station alpha. I'm impressed they actually brought us a playable alpha, allbeit limited in features, they are showing a level of maturity of the content and new features that Frontier always produce. No half built buggy rubbish, no crashes or falling through floors (yet fingers crossed!).

Stand clear...... :flasher:

Seems the final part of the Odeyssey Saga has dropped. I read through some of the lore, having not played any of it, and it seems that there is quite a lot of narrative leading into it and the whole Thargoid threat. It might be something that a group can work through and get a richer story experience, although still non-linear of course.

The update on Steam is decent priced now.

Spoiler, the story so far, although it is a good read and you won't remember it if you play the game:

"In other news, Frontier Developments founder David Braben has stepped down as the CEO, and will be replaced by Johnny Watts, the current chief creative officer."
