Speak to your ISP, they could have a problem on their modem rack.

Worth checking with them anyway, it eliminates one possibility.

FATAL

spoke to my isp and an engineer is looking into the matter ........BUT..................
i was told that my phone exchange is the maximum distance away, and because more people use the internet in my area means that my connection will drop during peak time .
another way to explian is that my internet is a tap and when i switch it on the pressure's gone down so much becauce of other ppl get the tap water(internet)before me because of the maximum distance i am away from the phone exchange.
i got the impression on the phone that there's not alot they can do but to terminate my connection, that was the choice i got.
now i dont know about you but this is not good enough ive had internet and been a bt cusomer for along time now and im very stressed about the whole matter.
anyone got any ideas

i nearly forgot they are sending out some more micro-filters :) to try

There is an issue with USB modems and USB support on VIA chipsets that has burned my fingers in the past. My connection would drop for no reason but the modem  ( alcatel speedtouch ) status lights said it was fine. Trawled the net for all the possible fixes and the situation improved some. I live in a village at the limit of ADSL delivery also. Got a new PC now and it works a dream.

If the above applies then the best thing i can suggest is try loan a PC from somewhere and try it out.

Hope this helps.

Ring them up and speak to cust services and log a complaint. It seems odd that as we discussed its only started happening this week and has been fine for ages.

Pmed you.

Mate, i had the same problem, wat i did is asked for a 'Alcatel Speed Touch USB Modem' instead of the Standard BT Broadband Modem, it solved my problem instantly
Thanks, Pure

Hi Fatal

I had that exact same problem but it was happening from the initial install. Mine turned out to be too much capacitance in the wiring in the house. I removed all the extra master outlets as they each have a cap and did a bit of re-wiring and hey presto, not a problem since. But unless you've been playing around adding new extension sockets and stuff, this probably won't help.

Not sure about the water pressure drop analagy though. The network runs on a -50v and the line current is in the milli-amp range so any volt drop should be negligible.

Best I can do mate. GL

Ok rite i have heard about this prob and i can help i think:) ok if you have any extension cables between you and your phone sockets try it without them. If you have other phone sockets make sure they all have adsl filters. If you have a telephone cable running to a pole go outside in the sunshine (sorry couldn't help it ) and see if the cable is staright. If not and it looks baggy it may be slightly connected but not fully making it jump. Your modem may be broken so try another one. If this doesn't help i will try to help you further
