WinXp with SP2 by any chance? I've been getting that with a few games and it was driving me nuts. I rolled my video driver back to an older version and then re-installed it. Seemed to cure the problem for me at least.

HTH?

GhostMjr

uninstalled sp2 and tried cs :s and it didn't work! Tried it without my nvidia driver and it didn't work! Now it loads the picture in the back ground and then crashes blips back to desktop! Withotu any error at all. Maybe it might be a bug?

Go to nVidias website and look for a link to "driver archive" it is somewhere off the download page. Get version 61.76 drivers which are WHQL certified. Install those then reinstall 61.77 (the latest version). That is what I did. its not a case of just checking that you have the latest drivers you have to get the files overwritten. if this does not solve your prob then we'll look at other approcahes but please try this first in exactly the way I suggested to ensure your filews get properly reinstalled post SP2 :)

OOh, heat can also cause this prob sometimes so make sure front and pback of case are unobstructed and have good supply of cool air.

ok if u have the blip bug as i outlined below this is whta to do

load cs 1.6 press start button on keyboard DO NOT CLOSE 1.6 CS OR CS:S WILL CRASH
Now load cs:S and it will load to the picture of cs;s
The menus r invisible which is a bug
You will have to guess where abouts the find servers icon is on the left then you can play ;)

This worked for me

Did you even bother rolling back to the previous nVidia driver?  :frusty:

As it sounds like a graphics driver error it would be monumentally stupid to not try the rollback as already suggested and hinted at twice!  Then you wouldn't have to go poking around in the dark as you have just described.......  Your solution is not a solution - why not try the solution provided to fix your blind work around? :dummy:

This worked for BlueBall

Zok

Just a note

Valve have been good enough to use it’s extensive base of users as guinea  pigs, lets not forget that this is a beta release, the idea being that when we find bugs we report them back to Valve. I know that this may be looked on as a lazy way of game testing, but Valve appear to be the only company in the unique position of being able to do this via Steam, we do after all have the option of not downloading and testing.
