Tom Tom Navigator 3 with iPAQ 2210

Bought a bundle from //www.totalpda.co.uk recently and thought a report was in order. I still haven't bothered to read the manual (as Oldie will attest), but it safely got us all the way to the server facility and back along with numerous other journeys I have undertaken for work.

Thoroughly recommended if you travel regularly to places that you haven;t been to before, or if you just want the reassurance that someone (the voice was christened 'Doris' - don't ask

) will guide you there and back.

I went for the iPAQ with the separate bluetooth GPS device (about the size of a small box of matches), but Oldie reports excellent results from the GPS compact flash jacket for the iPAQ. You can decide what you want for yourself, but both Oldie and I thoroughly recommend Tom Tom Navigator 3

I have been meaning to sort mine out but atm can't afford the Bluetooth GPS device. I bought the Hiacom foldable Compact flash version only to find out my iPAQ 4150 doesn't have a compact flash port

Doh!.................But the 2210 does....TL......mate........Buddy.......Pal

I've been using TT3 with iPaq 2210 for quite a while now - long enough to be annoyed by some of it's limitations but also to be impressed by it's strengths.

As long as you remember that it is an aide to navigation and can (and will) get things wrong then it is an excellent device.

the biggest snag is that there were errors in the mapping to start with and as roads change it appears that there are more errors creeping in (if I had a pound for every time it has tried to take me down a one way street the wrong way). You just need to remember that you are the boss

Oh, you gotta get the UK Postcode lookup which gives full 7 character postcode lookup and navigation. It costs absolutely nothing

read install instructions carefully. Any probs then install checkPOInt 3.2 first then copy postcode files to SD card as per website intructions.

I already had Checkpoint installed so it was a doddle to install and runs like a dream.

Don't go mad with CheckPOInt. TomTom has a limit on the number of overlay files it can handle (about 80 IIRC) so I would recommend just downloading the speedcamera stuff or get the speedcamera database from here

I use TomTom for the Palm T3.

I started with Palm a years back and haven't even thought about an IPAQ....

I love TomTom - e.g. finding March it was invaluable - for avoiding the speed traps it was brilliant (not that you can go too fast in a discovery of course).

I think some of the latest POI's are superb.
