Well the x64 bit windows is now on our doorstep and from the release it signals a new age in computing architecture. The good news however is anyone who bought xp pro before  July 31, 2005 can upgrade your version of full or oem xp professional to the new x64 windows for free simply go to these websites and you an upgrade today ;) From the bad experiences that the likes of DA had with the beta version i hope this new gold version of windows does not have the same problems as its predecessor had. To participate in this offer you must accept the terms before 31st July this year.

Has anyone as of yet got plans in the next month or so to upgrade to 64 bit windows? Or have already done so? If so or you are researching this fact can you explain the availibility of drivers for 64 bit windows. Do i have to get 64 bit drivers for all components and can they run with 32 bit drivers? I am a bit scpetical about upgrading to it at the mo as short term i don't want my computer to be target to just beta drivers but would prefer gold copies which of course looking at it from a long term perspective will occur. Also do we loose the opportunity to use xp ro ever again as we hand in our copies in exchange for 64 bit? If anyone has any advice or have read about these issues please respond to this post!

My understanding is that you WILL need 64 bit drivers for all of your hardware in order for it to work properly.

......which is the single biggest reason not to do it unless you want to become an upaid alpha tester for 64-bit Windows and its drivers.

My 2 cents: Wait a while, pay more for your upgrade later and in the process save trillions of $ by not having to waste several man years trying to get your 64-bit system to boot to desktop without going into meltdown.

I'm assuming I can get all this through the usual channels, work wise and and licensed through my office on the honesty basis thing?

When I'm ready that is.

What benefits does it offer, significant speed ups?

Probably none after all it is a microshite product and therefore will take ages to setup correctly, will crash randomly and will have an enormous amount of patches released it its first few weeks to correct the glaring errors in its security and to try and make it stable.

it'll probably also use up twice as many resources so you're going to need that dual 64 bit lump of silicon to crash it quickly and efficiently...

I am running the trial atm and it seems ok only one update for it but many programs such as avg free and zonealarm do not work on the 64 bit architecture. Steam works and it feels stable so far i will update this post as i find out more!
