setting up email on a mobile phone

I have a motorola V3 and I'm keen to try set it up so it can receive/send email so that I can pay vodafone more money each month...

Now, what settings do I need to know. My university email account is IMAP. I know the smtp incoming and outgoing mail servers and my password etc, but what are these other settings my phone has space for?

You got GPRS enabled?

Try having a look here for the settings.

I don't have my V3 with me at the moment as it's off being fixed (operator error - don't ask), however the settings are pretty much the same as on the V600 sat in front of me at the mo.  Mine is currently working with my POP3 Plusnet e-mail account over O2.

where exactly do I input what info that directs my phone to my university email account? I'm with Vodafone.

---password:*** (I assume this is web)
---DNS IP: 0.0.0.0 (do I need a dns ip?)

Email Provider: Custom (as opposed to Vodafone mail)
Protocol: IMAP4
User ID: (is this my university email login name or a name vodafone gives me?)
Password: (and associated password?)
Sending host: smtp.vodafone.net (should I change this to my uni one?)
sending port: 25
receiving host: imap.vodafone.net (should I also change this to my uni one?)
receiving post: 143
return address: (I guess I put my uni address here?)
name: (which name?)

ISP Settings look fine.

Email Provider: Custom
Protocol: IMAP4
User ID: Your university IMAP mail account login
Password: Password for uni mail account
Sending host: Uni SMTP host.  If this doesn't work (i.e. you can't send any mails but can receive) it may be because Vodafone want email to be sent via their own SMTP server.  In that case put it back to smtp.vodafone.net or mail.vodafone.net

Sending port: 25
Receiving host: Uni IMAP receiving server in here
Receiving port: 143
Return address: Uni email address in here
Name: S. Monkey - this will be added to the address field so that when you send an email, it appears as: S. Monkey rather than just the email address alone
