CS:S - Less Laggy?

In a worrying development I went onto a CS:S server over the weekend (our CS servers had not traffic at the time and Friends was down again) and found it to be quite playable.  Now maybe the WoW break I am currently taking has allowed me to revisit the game with fresher eyes, or maybe the CS:S code updates since I last played it have really made a big difference, but I actually enjoyed playing CS:S for a change!  Almost all of the lag/juddery effects seemed to have gone and the hitboxes seemed to be a little better than I remember them - and I didn't suffer from any phat grenades.

Anyone else noticed the improvements or is it just me?

Haven't tried it in a while. Maybe time to get Boomer dusted off?

DuVeL

I've only tryed it on |TG| but because they are abroad in the US I have a ping of 130 or so. I'll give it a go @ another server soon so I'll get back on it.

OK Here is what I found:

1024x768 4xAA 8xAF gave 40 to 100 fps (average 60 fps)

However,

Stopping FAH, increasing my heapsize to 512000 and setting 1280x960 4xAA 8xAF gives 65 to 180 fps (average 80fps)

 :)

Tests carried out on Boomer FYI

I passworded it tonight. Too many assholes. Can you set config to have the password by default please OB. If we need publics there are tons out there - I want to enjoy my CS:S not play mummy all night ;)

Some good fun games tonight.

CS:S has improved a lot, no lag, good frame rates, you hit what you aim at. Go play some people :D

Doorman

Here's what I found. I phantom restart of my pc on being killed. A blue screen on map change, twice! I thought I might have had a good session tonight, but publics!
Sorry I didn't come back after the last crash BB but I think you could tell I was not amused by our silly guests and I was getting paranoid about the next crash.

Well,  :(  I've just been on NESW CS:S and the same thing happened. So it's not Boomer. It must be ME! Any clues anyone?

How does it cope in CS:CZ? Does it crash then? If not then a CS:S prob and might be worth reinstalling just CS:S.

1. You could try a different video resolution and AA/AF settings to see if that stops it.
2. Try enabling/disabling EAX in your audio settings to see if that has an effect (try medium and high soundquality too)

Sorry can't think of anything specific but we need to find out what is causing the prob I guess.

Oh and as for our friends I opened HLSW and kicked the lot of them then stuck the password on the server - much quieter ;)

Bumpage ;)

This morning I had a Google around and in an unrelated article it was suggested to someone to untick 'automatic restart on errors' box. That way you would get an error report. I did that and fired up CS:S. I noticed a couple of tiny 'blips', not enough to distrart but enough to cause the restarts...........I reckon.
Sooooooo, I tried Boomer and new server and problem solved. One hopes.
