steam off the boil?

the other night I loaded up steam and it updated, but then only got as far as the "play games" window displaying the message "seaching for updates to installed games" (well, something like that)

If I try doing anything (e.g. opening the monitor window) steam stops responding? Should I just leave it searching for updates to installed games for an hour or so or is this a "known" problem of some sort? :ph34r:

Make a copy of your BLOBfile to your desktop as an example and the try deleting the BLOBfile and restart you Steam.
