Should be a giggle - let's see how it pans out when some pre-release stuff is set loose on the internet.

I'm more interested in Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, but I'll still be buying Q4 when it comes out because I'm a sucker.

Started playing last night on single mode.

First impressions - a cross between Q2 for game style and Doom3 for graphics - very dark need a flash every where.

Bots are a little more animated with some pretty good dodging. I'm playing on 4th hardest (out of 5 levels) seems pretty easy even though I have got stuck.

Controls are basic (not even a use button) not complex.

All in all 6/10 for singleplayer.

Unless Multi is far better don't think I would have bought.

BF2 is much better

A long. long time ago...

:)

I used to play Unreal Tournament - those that played UT always used to say it was better than Quake as the maps and weapons were better. IS this still true?

In otherwords, what is better: Quake 4 or the latest Unreal Tournament (2004?)

Don't know as haven't played Q4 yet but UT2004 was pretty good. The next version of UT will use the Unreal3 engine and will be called UT2007 I believe.

Don't know when it's due out

Found this which gives some possible hardware requirements for UT2007.

Single players like doom3 but less jumpy and with a big supply of ammo.

Multiplayers fun. Its satisfying to bounce around the arenas firing rockets at anything that moves.

Some guns dont seem to have the "umph" i want them to have (the lightning gun and hyperblaster)

Hopeless with the grenade launcher.

Going to play some CZ now. It'll be like a walk in the park wearing slippers.

Really enjoying Quake 4 single player, gets more interesting the further you get. Anyone completed it yet, im just at level : Last Hope.  Never ends!!  I played a game of cz after playing alot of quake 4 and my mouse seemed mega fast in cz, anyone else get that?

Personally I wouldn't say that that requires much of a spoiler, as it tells you it's gonna happen on the back of the box :-)

I have just one question about this game (and Doom 3 for that matter). Where the hell does all the texture memory for the 'Ultra' textures *go*? They recommend a 512MB gfx card as a level can have up to 500MB of texture data. I tried running it on my 256MB card just to see how it looked in the above mentioned level. The textures for anything that was close (those on the needle punching down, and the mark on your chest) *still* looked low-res enough to be running on an XBox. I don't get it, where's the memory going? Are they just bump mapping everything? Don't they think maybe getting some better looking normal textures might be a better start? Half Life 2 looked amazing on the texture front, and even Lost Coast, which supposedly had a lot of bump mapping and such along with the HDR lighting, didn't need a graphics card with this much RAM, and in my opinion looked *far* better...
