So Ranger starts telling me about this new LAN venue in Hull and they have this forum. Ranger posts *you know he's a machine right - what you guys thought he just posted on this forum - he he yeah right!*  :D  So anyway Ranger introduces himself, mentions dMw (of course) and a guy on there forum called Axl,  responds with...

Quotehehe. I have a friend, from down south, that use to come to my LANs (and his mate) in a clan called DG (Downgraded) his name is Ben (Suicidal Monkey) and was doing on about going to the dmw lan as he is also in dmw bf2 clan

So I guess your famous Suicidal  :D  of course we instantly clamoured onto your fame and success and replied of course we knew you - Ranger acutally said he'd slept with you at the last Lan. Axl hasn't responded since that so it may have put him off..

I used to be in a band at uni. The drummer happened to play counter-strike. Myself and the two guitarists all happened to take a liking to counterstrike. Turned out the drummer had a few friends back home who played it too... [dg] or downgraded still exists (band is no more...) and is still quite active ;) A few of them occasionally pop in on the dMw servers but the only game I can see them playing frequently is WoW at the moment. Actually off to a dg lan on the 24th November! Don't think I've ever actually met Axl, though I've known him online and some of [dg] has gone to his lans. Axl used to run a sort of mini league site for all sorts of 1on1 games. I did quite well in their cs knife only tourney :D

I'll be worried if anyone from the quake2 ctc mod days appears though ;)

Axl lives in Hull now (for his sins  :D  and he organises a regularl Hull Lan party, so Ranger and I may go one in the future. Bit weird though, they play like 6 different games in a day with a strict itineary - fairly small compared to dMw with about 10-16 players.

it's not how big it is ...
;)

With a small number of people you have to make sure you're all playing the same game at the same time to get proper-sized teams. With the [dg] ones we're typically in someones house so breaks between games are typically spent sourcing food and drink from the kitchen and having a chat. :)

Yeah, I suppose it will be a bit like an opposite of a dMw LAN...

They will have set games at a set time - and only play this one game for an hour or two then it's on to the next one!

How the hell I will remember all the keys is beyond me....BUT it will keep me going until the next dMw LAN at least!

:)

I'm just over the moon we are making connections with guys that know a guy we know in dMw! Realy nice eh?

heh, I have those 4 recrdings on CD, but they were made using a crappy tapedeck that happened to be in the band room so the quality was poor before they were compressed into mid-low bitrate mp3s :) Also have a few more "practice recordings" of other stuff we did which were recorded on a better quality minidisc thing. Less complete songs (by a long long way) but some entertaining stuff...or perhaps you had to be there...

I will re-host them on my uni webspace when I remember! :D

Got much better quality recordings of a bunch of covered 80's pop/pop-softrock classics done by the band I was part of last year but we've fallen by the wayside again. Just not enough time!
