It's free upgrade time for my mobile - Sony Ericsson Z600.

I've been looking at the W800i. It looks quite good, read a couple of reviews. Of course what I am really interested is what the experts think - so come on let me know if this is the one or are there better.

The only thing I really need is bluetooth, mp3 is cool, camera - if I have to. I would like something small(ish) the z600 is fine for size, but too wide really.

my other half has a w800i, seems to be a great little phone. Not too big, does the mp3/FM thing pretty well once yuo've worked out the pc interface (pc software only at the moment, no support for linux/mac - methinks there's some drm, or similar, issues going on here)

The main points for the w800i, imo, are the mp3/FM useability and the bit that lets you plug in any standard headphones (unlike most phone manufacturers who insist upon annoying prorietary ones)

The camera works fine and I don't think it adds much to the size, otherwise it's pretty similar to some other SE choc-bar style phones I've seen, and if you don't use the camera you barely know it's there.

I think the main issue is the sony software for the mp3 playing causing problems when you try to copy your files directly rather than letting the phone recompress and copy them via it's software. It warns you that you didn't let the software copy the files so they might not play properly, and you have to play them in a "somewhat roundabout way" if you treated them as a data-file transfer. I put this down to Sony being control freaks.

Quote- fairly good battery life
- camera + screen seem good
- joy stick a bit foiddly
- takes more expensive sony memory cards rather than SD cards, as used in Nokias
- I have enjoyed using it!
9/10

I mean you haveto use sony's software to transfer the music. I just installed it on my PC and it found my MP3s, I chose what I wanted on the phone and then they were recompressed and copies. slowish...

think it's a good phone, but with a few minor teething compatability issues. Seems to work okay though!

Now that looks nice. I fear that any product offering the ability to book a personal demonstration is going to be beyond my pocket though.
