I'd have gone along with that until I got my Viewsonic VX924. Marvellous!

I'd agree with that. A lot of my mates were getting TFTs and I was all 'naah, they're not good enough for gaming'. Then I got two Viewsonic VP191s (I got so used to having a dual head setup at work on TFTs and home on CRTs that I couldn't go back, and when work gave me 19" ones my 17" CRTs at home looked so tiny... Until I got those at work I was planning on 17" TFTs...). You pay for it, but the monitors are damn good, even at non-native res (which was my main worry). Even midrange TFTs these days seem to be good enough for gaming at native res (In my experience/opinion), but for a lot of the less high-end ones it looks a helluva lot worse than a CRT if running non-native, and at 19" native res is 1280x1024. I didn't want to have to replace my PC every time a game came out I wanted to play but couldn't run native.

Stragely, it seems (to me) that FPS games, even when holding the view still and looking for jaggies and such, look a lot better at non-native res than stuff like, say, Black and White 2. Good thing i'm primarily an FPS gamer ;-)
