Hi guys, I read from Sulky what he uses to fly the planes/choppers and I'm thinking of getting a controller myself aswell. What do you guys suggest?

The mouse and keyboard flying works for me just a little bit and that's only in the big transportheli. The attackchopper and so I keep chrashing and flying planes I find myself really fast outside the mapboundries.

Suggestions please or what you use.

Mouse / Keyboard for all helis. Whack your sensitivity all the way up, and practice.  Practice a lot.

Joystick for jets (Logitech Extreme 3D Pro).  Try as I might I just couldn't get the hang of using the mouse to fly a plane. Although the mouse did make it easier to line up strafing runs, and spot targets using the commo rose.

I once got this from Liberator:

QuoteI fly the choppers with the mouse.

I have the sensitivity set quite high and fly with small movements mainly but use a fair amount of desk space when attacking another chopper or trying to avoid one.

The main thing to remember is to use get the best manouvering you have to give it throttle. Manouvering without any throttle is like trying to fly a house.

You can get out of a lot of situations with full power and smooth mouse movement. Trying to get out of a dive with just the mouse will usually get you killed, mouse and throttle will power you out of a dive.

When hovering the rockets will usually strike where the crosshair was when you fired. When moving forward it will usually hit where the mid sections between the crosshairs and the horizon line was when you fired.

Thanks so far guys.

I haven't adjusted any of my sensitivity levels.

remember choppers have different handling characteristics so what works for the cobra will be different for the school bus.

I use the Saitek Cyborg (it being the only joystick I could find that felt comfortable for us cack-handers). It was a definite improvement for me over mouse and keyboard (in that i could actually fly without crashing on takeoff) but i've yet to manage to shoot anything down, or learn to pull up into a hover in less than 5 minutes.

I use the joystick for both basically because the Joystick has rudder build in (twist), and a throttle that can be set to whatever setting you want instantly without having to jab at the keyboard. if your buying a joystick it must have rudder.

As I'm somewhat of a model helicopter/jet  geek and have spent £1000's on crash repairs over the years.  What I can say is that jets/ planes are the easy things to master.  Just set the throttle and fly elevator/ ailerons, theres no need for rudders only for aerobatics and lining up for a bomb run.  Heli's are a completely kettle of fish, its taken me 5 years to master flying them.  To turn a helicopter effectively you need to use rudder to bring the nose round or youll end up just banking and hitting a tree!   Get a good joystick wth rudder and plenty of buttons and youll not look back
