Hi, I got the Special Forces expansion today. Had two problems, first it would complain about my CD Key when connecting to a server, after some annoyance and searching on google, I sorted that out, however the performance is rotten... I joined a 64 player server and achieved about 1/2 a frame per second, playing on lower numbers achieves pretty bad performance in comparason to the original game which I've not really had any problems with. Im using high graphics settings, with 1280*1024 rsolution, 2GHz athlon, 1GB ram and a Geforce 6800 GT. I've not actually tried turning down the settings... because the original works fine and there arn't any special graphic additions are there? Does anybody know of any specific issues which can be fixed or have any tips? I reinstalled the 1.12 patch after installing

Thank you muchly :)

Hi Wordan, SF is known to be make considerably more demands on your system than BF. First thing I would recommend is get 2 GB or ram, even BF2 uses 1.5 meg and you will notice an immediate and considerable increase in frame rate and the speed at which you get into the game.

I would also drop my resolution and settings to medium and then work your way back up.

That should sort it.

Thanks Dewey
I just knocked my graphics down to medium, howver i didnt change the resoultion. It actually performed a lot worse than it was earlier in the day, so I dont know whats going on. it is unplayable. Another gig of ram? yea, a whole lot of cash for a few extras and a huge performance hit, have gotten a bit pissed of with it.

I had 512MB ram when i got BF2, and when I upped to 1GB i did notice a pretty decent improvment, hower, im sure the amout of ram it  uses scales depending on how much you have? Im just looking for excuses to save my money...

(edit)Well actually I just discovered that the origional game is not performing properly either

Did you re-apply the 1.12 patch after installing SF.

If not, you have to.

Yup

Compleat reinstall also, which hasn't worked.

The input lag's sometimes, even on a 16player empty local server, it acts as if you have netwrok lag, and online I get 'connection problem' a lot. (Since I installed BF2:SF)

If you have 2 gig of ram and goto processors you'll see that BF2 likes to run on 1.5 gig of ram, so less than that and its going to be slower I'm afraid.

The good news is we don't yet run SF, so you could uninstall it for now and run BF2, then join us on the server, you missed some great games last night - new recruits are always welcome  :) Though I see you joined over  a year ago

I have the same problem. It is not 1 fps but sort of lags a bit every 2 to 5 second. My solution was to crank the solution down to 800x600 medium setting, and clear out all running processes.

I am on Athon XP 3000+, 1,25GB, R9600 XT 128MB AGP, SATA RAID

I was getting that sort off effect. I discovered that I had set my sound card (Creative X-Fi) to Entertainment mode instead of Gaming Mode and it was using the processor differently. If you have a card that allows you to swap modes then worth checking.

So much for the "it's only a £14.95 official upgrade" argument. :roflmao:

The fact is you will notice a distinct improvement in playing BF2  with the extra ram - this has nothing to do with SF - so I don't understood what your point is?

So yes SF is only a £15 official upgrade. *I'm getting deja vu*

First thing I would do is to reinstall 1.12 patch then delete all of the BF2 cached files and then let it cache the textures etc again.

It is a lot cheaper than more memory and may even work ;)

His point is, Dewey, that your original comment (below) suggested that SF was more memory hungry than BF2 and that going to 2 Meg would help alleviate the extra drag of running SF. Thus if you had to upgrade your memory to get SF to run OK then it is in effect costing more than £15 to upgrade. I have made bold your particular words below so you don't have to refer back to the original comment. If I have misunderstood your use of English then please excuse me but it looks pretty clear to me.

Oh, and for the record    ;)

Doorman

I made a post recently about not being able to get on SF servers and the cure for the problem.(which nobody acknowledged :( ) From what I'm reading here this may be related. If you've simply installed SF on top of patched up BF2 the RE-INSTALL patch 1.2. as someone (scans down, ah yes, BlueBall or 'Sir' as I like to call him) has already stated, but not quite forcibly enough.

Closes door quietly behind him.
