Gents,

Please read and comment upon the document below which sets out the proposed new structure for the community.

QuoteDead Men Walking
Proposed Structure 2006

Overview

The old CounterStrike based community has evolved and diversified to encompass a range of new online games. Unfortunately the admin structure, the rules/guidelines, the website and, to a lesser degree, the forum have not kept pace with our members’ activities.

This document aims to identify the areas that need revision and puts forward some proposals for discussion.

Admin Structure

To ensure that we are providing our members with the gaming environment they are entitled to it is necessary to recognise that, where a particular game is popular enough, it should have its own section within the greater community. To ensure that these sections are run properly and do not become isolated within the community there will need to be a robust and effective admin structure and rule set that all sections must abide by. The proposed structure is set out below:

The community will continue to be headed by both TeaLeaf and OldBloke who will each take on the title of Head Admin.

For each gaming section within the community a Section Admin will be appointed by the Head Admins.

The Section Admins will appoint and be assisted by Game Admins.

The existing membership structure will remain unchanged however it will now be the role of the Section Admin to promote to Bravo/Charlie within their own section. The Head Admins and all other Section Admins will have the right to veto any proposed promotion.

Roles and Responsibilities

Head Admin

Ensures that the Dead Men Walking community continues to promote teamwork and fairplay and to provide our membership with a lame-free gaming environment irrespective of the game being played.
Appoints a Section Admin to run a gaming section.
Ensures that each gaming section is being run in accordance with the rules/guidelines and ethos of the community.
Vets all Game Admin appointments made by the Section Admins.
Adjudicates in matters of discipline concerning the actions of any member.

Section Admin

Ensures that the section under them is run in the manner expected.
Appoints and empowers Game Admins to ensure that the gaming environment is lame-free.
Organises membership of official leagues/ladders and arranges matches therein.
Initiates promotion of members from Alpha to Bravo and from Bravo to Charlie.

Game Admin

Ensures that all members are playing to the spirit of the community and to the rules of the game.
Apply their powers of admin within the appropriate rules and guidelines.
Assist the Section Admin where required.

Rules and Guidelines

These will need to be revised and updated to ensure that, where possible, they are appropriate to cover all gaming sections. Where the need for non-generic rules/guidelines are indentified they will be regarded as an appendix to the general rules/guidelines and applied to the game in question. The player/admin standards will also need to reflect the multi-gaming community and the new admin structure.

Website / Servers

As our community’s ‘Shop window’ we need to ensure that we are conveying our strengths and qualities. We should also be striving to make sure that the information displayed is current, informative and clear. To this end we will appoint someone to be the community’s web admin â€" a non-exclusive position.

The gaming servers will be maintained by a small group of server admins â€" non-exclusive positions.

Forum

The forum structure will need to be revised and a moderator structure applied to reflect the gaming section changes. An assessment of the current forum software (IPB) will be undertaken by the Head Admins to ensure we have the best possible solution for the community.

Hi Folks,

This is obviously a document that has been given careful consideration and has been carefully worded. I like the hierarchical structure as the community is now at a stage where the number of members is making it difficult for a small group of admins with equal powers to pick up on all the tasks involved in running the community smoothly. This structure should allow the section admins to bring in gaming admins to help run day to day operations and take workload off the head and section admins. It also strikes me as a way of allowing particular admins to perform a less involved role without being excluded. I say that from a personal point of view as my time to devote to dMw is only really starting to head back to it's original level but it may not reach the level required of the traditional admin responsibility.

Other than to agree with the proposal, I can't think of a better starting point from where to progress.
Cheers, Bert
