With impecable timing my youngest has broken out in something.

Just finished a course of antibiotics, and has broken out in what I would call hives all over. Raised and red, but don't seem painful. There's a concentration of them around the tops of her legs and they are a deep red / purple / black which looks terrible.

I've had her down the doctors who fobbed us off with chicken pox / allergy, then down to the A&E on Thursday night, who said it wasn't chicken pox, but an allergen.

Piriton isn't taking it down, no diet changes. We are assuming it's the anti-b - amoycillin - but it's heart breaking to look at.

We tried to put her in the path last night and she screamed blue murder, like it was scalding - which it wasn't.

Any advice - preferably - she'll be fine I've seen it before type things. NOT scare stories please.

sounds to me like an allergic reaction to the antibiotic....

did you mean Amoxicillin? a quick google finds the reactions to Amoxicillin include hives and rash symptoms...Amoxicillin

I wouldn't worry too much...as long as her breathing is ok and she's well in other respects.

kids eh?....

hope she feels better soon...ice cream helps :P

if the skin isn't broken then calomine lotion may be soothing. I feel it is an allergic reaction as well but if you are worried at all then try calling the NHS24 helpline to get a further opinion.

It is worrying as a parent, I remember calling a doctor out late one night when my daughter was about 1 and a half cause i thought she was choking to death. Doctor said it was croup. I'd never heard croup before and it sounds really scarey the first time you hear it.

So go ahead and keep asking till your satisfied with the answer, it's your right as a parent. (and let's face it you gotta be right sometime benny  :narnar: )

Aye, it just looks terrible.

Did the NHS thing....just worrying that they are blase, missus is 9 months gone, so isn't exactly in the right frame of mind so is worrying and hence I am.

I had the same experience...really scary...we thought it might be whooping cough
2 minutes in a steamy bathroom and a few lungfuls of cold night air and everything was back to normal 8)
