I have made a start - no league games yet, just a couple of friendlies. I needed to spend a lot of time familiarising myself with the squad and staff. I am not impressed! I have made a few moves for previous transfer targets, but no-one wants to come to Wigan.

One of the tactics I have used previously is to raid Anderlecht who always seem to have good players going cheap. No go with Wigan.

I did better with attracting players to Hull. I wonder if my own rating as manager affected bring those players in. Starting at Wigan in the premiership i have no real rating. Perhaps in the future I will attract players. SHould I save money now, or will they have all completed moves after Christmas?

Aye, I've had the same issue getting players. No bugger wants to come to Wigan (it's a fair point though).

I've played 3 or 4 league matches now, and have only lost to Chelsea who scored in the 92nd minute for the win.....bloody cheats.

Dewey, do you just start then go on holiday for the season? Or do you not sleep?

Well admittedly a lot of players don't want to come to Wigan, but that didn't stop me bringing some quality players in the first season.

The board where delighted with 14th as was I. I had some low points, in january I was 18th and looking like getting relegated, but managed to start putting a string of results together against the lower teams. Highlight of the season was beating Man U 3-2!

Start of Season 2, I had by now realised which players needed to go. So I transfer listed about 6 of them, got rid of most of them.

The board gave me 6 million coupled with the 5 or so million I had raised from the sale of players let me go looking on the transfer window for new players. Then the chairman said he wanted to bring in a high profile player to raise spirits and aspirations of the club and that I could spend above my transfer budge. Great idea unfortunatley the reality is not many high player profiles want to come! However after much seaching I found

So far I've played 5, won 3 lost 1 drawn 1 and am 5th in the league. I'm hoping to get in the top 10 this season, but that will depend on injuries as I haven't got a big squad.

Jo and I are both ill at the moment (though we are actually of on holiday - go figure!) so I'm playing a lot.

I think if you don't invest in new players you'll be playing with Hull in the championship next season!

Ive found the game to have a lot less pressure managing Wigan than the likes of Man U - everytime I win a game for Wigan the management tell me how great I am  :D Wigan are quite well off too, so they've given me more money each year than I ever got at Newcastle or ManU.

Anyway a quick update. I've finished Season 2. The mighty Wigan came 6th and we will be playing in europe next season! The boys did well. The board where delighted with the result.
Players who did particularly well where

Andrey Arshavin  - who sounds like someone whose had their bum shaved, good player but at the end of the season he's now moaning he wants to move, Wigan is to small a club etc, very annoying after pulling this guy out of relative obscurity, thats the thanks I get. Jeez you'd think he'd be happy playing in the Euro Cup next season but apparently not. The good thing is nobody has been interested in him so far.

Betinho Striker and Eddie Johnson Striker scored over 40 goals between them. Roncatto was also superb, in fact most of my team played well, there was some great battling performances where we held onto the smallest of leads against the likes of Liverpool to beat them 2-1, the defence held well.

I've got to say the Wigan board are very amicable and quite generous with their money.  They have announced plans to expand the JJB stadium from 22,000 to 34,000 (?) work has already started but won't be completed until 7th December. They have also given me a choice of options on increasing the maximum players wages and transfer funds, I went for raising players wages fund to 300k and a transfer fund of £14,000,000.

So with a tidy sum in my pocket I started trawling through players - famous and obscure and after putting in successful bids for about 40 players, I started negotiations with them to find only about 6 of them actually wanted to come to Wigan! *sheesh Benny you are indeed a sadist for picking Wigan! Anyway just two players have been signed at a combined cost of some 16 million *chairman* gave me more money for bringing in a big name signing. So I got:

D'Alessandro from Wolfsburg for about 10 million, and some othe striker from Mexico for 7 million, who has great stats, is 27 but I can't remember his name (will update when I get home).

But thats it, I've gotten rid of about 3 rubbish players and have only decent players left, however my squad was too small with only about 18 players in total, plus I had no GK cover and limited defenders so I bought 2 guys in on Loan a GK and a defender.

I'll post my new squad and my first team etc next time I update. So far I've had a few friendlies and have won convincingly. But thats no substitute for the real thing. Friendlies with Juventus, Real Madrid and a few others should help put a bit of money in my coffers as I've currently got ZERO cash left.

Looking forward to Season 3 and Wigans first taste of European compeition, how will we fare?

ps very annoyed at Harchester being included in my game, Spurs bought Casper Rose who sunk my FA cup run, very frustrating to be beaten by players who don't even exist!

Update

Its now January in my first season.

Dont take any advice from Dewey. I now have 22 right sided midfielders. I didnt think I needed them all, but Dewey said 'stop being tight with your money, get em bought'. So I now have the worlds first right sided (only) attack formation. All passing is concentrated down the right. Passing is set to short and we play a 1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1 formation. Naturally I have taken Deweys advice and the distance between defence and midfield is nill as I have done away with the defence, mostly because some of them wanted to play centrally!

I'll post my squad up when Dewey shows me how!

C'mon Benny, this is  your competition and you haven't contributed anything yet - stop playing with your goblins for a second and tell us how the Mighty Wigan are doing?

3rd Season update:

My mighty Wigan finished the season 3rd, behind Chelsea and ManU, pipping liverpool who came 4th - an excellent result I'm sure you'll agree.

In the UEFA cup we got knocked out by Heneveren(sp) in the knockout stages.

However we went on to win both the FA and League cups, beating some excellent teams along the way. Eddie Johnson and Fonseca both scoring over 30 goals each!

At the end of the 3rd season, some of my best players wanted to leave even though they had won silverware with the club, qualifed for the Champions League aswell as expanding the stadium to 36,000 - very dissapointing.

So I had to cash in on Gaven who I sold to Man U for 12 million (I bought him for 1.5m), Evandro Roncatto my best player only 21 and voted Wigan player of the year and players young player of the year also left for free to one of the big clubs. Ashavin also requested to leave but he still has a long contract and won't be going anywhere just yet.

I also took this opportunity to slash my wage bill of all the dead wood and culled a lot of my team, hoping to bring in quality players in the new season.

I'll post my mid season spending spree next, with a team roster aswell as posting other info.

I'm raring to go in the Champions League next year, but I need to invest heavily in some quality players which should prove challenging to get them to sign for Wigan.

I'm trying mate, bloody kids get in the way of a good session.....erm.. that sounds wrong.

As soon as I'm back in work I can start sharking the odd game during the day.

I'm about 1/2 way through my first season, and running second, quite chuffed. No major signings yet, but I've got a couple coming over soon, some old rockers from the continent to keep my goals up.... Will post screenies when I get a sec.

I have tried, the buggers won't come to Wigan...Can't say I blame them.

Beaten Tottenham and Man U, Chelsea beat me with a 93rd minute goal and Liverpool tonked me.

My biggest problem at the moment is I haven't got enough space on the pitch for all my good players. Having to sub henchoz at the moment to give my aged Brazilian signing a run out.

I've been told off for using the PC too much lately so am back on the stealthy laptop sessions, so should make some more progress now...
