Eclipse(my isp) recommend changing to 1458 apparently the BT ADSL std.

However I've also read changing this can improve your connection under certain circumstances but make it worse in others.

Windows default is 1500.

Anyone tinkered with theie value ?

Good or bad experiences

If you are running XP then tweaking the MTU shouldn't make much of a difference. Tweaking the RWIN settings (Default Recieve Window) has a bigger benefit.

If you want to do it then I recommend trying Dr TCP which is free (search you'll find it)

Many years back I wrote a program called MTUSpeed which was very popular around the time of Win98/W2K/NT4 (so popular in fact that one week it had more downloads than the recently released Quake demo   )

I gave up developing MTUSpeed when i started becoming ill and IMHO Dr TCP is the next best thing ;)

As you can see, software development doesn't allow you to retire on the proceeds :(

Did it make you much in the way of retirement funds?
