I know that excel automaticly saves the files once in a while. My boss did some work this morning but then his computer auto-restarted (happens to him from time to time).
Where can I find the settings for the Autosave so I can find the hopefully backed up file.

Settings -> Save (I guess, mine is danish)

For instance my path shown there is

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\

NB. Same place you set the time interval.

I think it only does that if you turn it on. And I believe that the auto save just saves the document in its original location. EDIT: It looks like it's turned on by default now, delanvital has posted the location. It never used to be on the older versions of excel :P

If it's a recovered file then opening excel should list all of the recovered files on the open window frame, however I think it only does this if excel crashes.

dunno if it'll help but there's a
start-->programs-->Microsoft Office Tools-->Microsoft Office Application Recovery
no idea what it does though!

I set them all to auto save about every 5 minutes, though even repairing the last 5 minutes of changes can be a right pain

Saving is for girls. Real men just type fast and try to hit print before the crash...

I remember Office '97 having auto save. I believe you should have the function in your version. And as far as I can remember, it is on by default. Did your version note have a "save" section in settings?

Real men don't have hatched eggs in their sigs.

When I want to "save"there is an option "Extra" with several options but this just makes a bacckup copy (not to usefull).

go to  Tools .... choose options... and on there is a save tab where you can configure the auto save for time interval and location. It will tell you there where it has been saving the file and u can change to suit
